Key Stats
Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox looked like they would make it a game at the beginning of the opener. Third baseman Miguel Vargas smacked two home runs and was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate. Unfortunately, that was all the offense the team could muster. Luis Robert continued his struggles at the plate. Over the past seven games, he is only slashing .133/.133/.321, and he went 0 for 4 today, making those numbers even worse.
Right-hander Sean Burke takes the mound looking to continue his strong month. In 16.1 innings pitched over three starts, he has only surrendered ten hits and allowed two earned runs. Burke’s biggest problem is control. He hasn’t been able to go deep into games because he gives a lot of free bases. In the past three starts, he has walked 11 batters. If he has any hope of slowing down this offense, he is going to have to stop giving free bases away.
Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs found their offense in game one of the series. Crow-Armstrong was the story of the day, going 4 for 5 with six RBIs and a home run, but many other players had multi-hit games. Seiya Suzuki had been struggling at the plate but went 2 for 4 yesterday with a couple of RBIs. Look for him to continue breaking out of his slump against an inferior opponent.
The Cubs are sending out left-hander Matthew Boyd to the mound. Boyd hasn’t dominated this season but has been the beneficiary of an elite offense behind him. However, in his last start against the New York Mets, he went six innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, and striking out eight. The White Sox lineup is much different than the Mets.

Prediction
The Chicago Cubs’ lineup has too many weapons for the Chicago White Sox to handle. Burke struggles with walks, and I see the Cubs jumping out to an early lead in this one, cruising to a victory. Give me the Cubs spread and I’m taking the over as well.
