Key Stats

Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are looking to bounce back after losing 4-3 on the road Sunday to the Detroit Tigers, as they allowed three runs in the ninth inning. Chicago’s lineup was silent as they were just 4-for-27 with three walks and four strikeouts on the day while failing to record an extra-base hit. Luis Robert Jr. was caught stealing and the team was just 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Veteran righty Martin Perez pitched well as he threw 6.1 innings and allowed one run but the bullpen failed to hold onto the lead.

Rookie right-hander Shane Smith is going to be taking the ball for the Chicago White Sox in this game and is making his second career start. He pitched well in his MLB debut against the Minnesota Twins as he went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Smith needs to work on his command, which could have been just MLB debut jitters affecting him in that start.

Cleveland Guardians

\"Cleveland

The Cleveland Guardians were also unable to get much going on Sunday, losing to the Los Angeles Angels 6-2. The team was neutralized at the plate, going just 3-for-29 with four walks and 10 strikeouts. Kyle Manzardo hit his third home runs of the season in this game while Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana, and Lane Thomas each stole a base. Cleveland went hitless in five at-bats with runners in scoring position so the offense struggled in critical situations. Luis L. Ortiz pitched a quality start with six innings and three runs, but the offense could not score enough, so he drops to 0-2 on the season.

Right-hander Ben Lively gets the start for the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday and has gotten off to an unideal start to the 2025 season as he is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 9.1 innings. Hitters have gotten to his pitches as he has a .289 batting average against thus far. Lively faced the White Sox three different times in 2024 and finished going 1-1 in 13.2 innings and allowed six runs on 15 hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts.

Prediction

This is not the same Chicago White Sox team of the 2024 season as they seem to be playing with some more life. Shane Smith is a bit of a wild card in this game, but even if he gives up baserunners, the Guardians are tied for sixth in MLB with eight double plays hit into. Cleveland also being 29th with a .449 OPS with runners in scoring position concerns me about their ability to score runs. Take the White Sox getting 1.5 runs as the better bet as we are not giving up too much juice here.

Final Pick

Chicago White Sox +1.5 (-130)
