Where to Watch: MLB.TV
The Chicago Cubs head to Florida to take on the Miami Marlins in a three-game series. The Cubs are coming off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox. A struggling White Sox staff couldn’t stop their offense. The Marlins took two out of three against the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. Their pitching staff only allowed five total runs over the weekend. These two teams met at the beginning of last week, with the Cubs taking two out of three. Can the Cubs continue their winning streak, or will the Marlins pull off the upset in game one?

Key Stats
Chicago Cubs
The Minnesota Twins were led all weekend by center fielder and leadoff hitter Pete Crow-Armstrong. Over the past seven games, he is slashing .458/.462/.917 with a double, two triples, two home runs, and 10 RBIs. Seeing as these two teams played within the last week, Crow-Armstrong compiled some of these stats against the Marlins.
Right-hander Ben Brown takes the mound, facing the Miami Marlins for the second time in a week. Last Tuesday against this team, he threw 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and striking out six. Brown has been much better on the road than at home. He has started a total of eight games, with five of them being home starts. 19 of his 22 allowed earned runs have come at Wrigley Field. Brown might be happy to be making a start away from home.
Miami Marlins
The Miami Marlins do not have many household names, but their offense is above-average in many of the major categories. Over the past week, they have been led by right-fielder Kyle Stowers. In the past seven games, he is slashing .409/.480/.955 with a double, a triple, three home runs, and four RBIs. Center fielder Derek Hill has been struggling as of late, only hitting .200 with seven strikeouts over the past week.
The Marlins are sending right-hander Edward Cabrera to the mound. He has been dealing with a finger injury, but reports indicate he will start. Keep an eye on the injury report, though, if he does get scratched late, the lines could be affected. In his last start against the Chicago White Sox, he threw for 5.0 innings, giving up three hits and an earned run while striking out two. However, against some of the better lineups in the majors, he has struggled. In starts against the Diamondbacks and Dodgers, he gave a total of 10 earned runs in 9.2 innings pitched.

Prediction
In baseball, we often can’t use past series because teams go through phases throughout the year. That’s not the case here. It’s been less than a week since these two teams faced off. The Chicago Cubs’ offense is playing too well right now for me to pick against them. Furthermore, the struggles of Cabrera in his past two starts, coupled with the fact that he’s dealing with an injury, make me lean toward the Cubs. The moneyline odds are good, but I’ll take the slightly better odds with the spread.
