Chet Holmgren 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

chet holmgren

Chet Holmgren is entering his second full season playing in the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder, missing his first season due to injury. Holmgren is coming off a great season where he finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting behind Victor Wembanyama. Holmgren helped the OKC Thunder get back to the playoffs since the 2020 bubble season with the Western Conference’s best record last season before losing in the Western Conference Semis to the Dallas Mavericks. Here’s a look at his production from last season.

Chet Holmgren 2023-24 Production

In the 2023-24 season, Chet Holmgren averaged 16.5 points per game, 7.9 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 2.3 blocks per game, and 0.6 steals per game. The defensive efficiency was great for Holmgren all season long especially down in the paint, which is the whole attraction to his fantasy value.

The defensive stats that he’ll accumulate along with the efficient scoring in his opportunities as the third option behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams is intriguing.

Holmgren was the best answer for the Oklahoma City Thunder that they needed for last season but now they have some depth by adding Isaiah Hartenstien in the offseason which might affect his production in 2024-25 a tad. Speaking of 2024-25 production, let’s look at Chet Holmgren’s 2024-25 projections now.

Chet Holmgren 2024-25 Projections

Chet Holmgren is currently ranked 11th according to ESPN Fantasy. The stat line projection that ESPN has for Holmgren is 17.5 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, 2.4 blocks per game, and 0.7 steals per game. As previously stated, the Oklahoma City Thunder added Isaiah Hartenstien in the offseason for big man depth as it is needed because the Mavericks‘ big men exposed the lack of size last season in the playoffs.

The addition of Hartenstien means that the minutes for Holmgren will see a slight drop meaning a little less opportunities for production. But the leap that Holmgren could get is why his average points per game went up by one point. Holmgren will produce enough splitting opportunities with Jalen Williams as the second and third options behind Shai. Holmgren will continue to flourish in OKC’s fluid offense led by Shai, with the pick and roll and pick and pop plays as well as the sets drawn up by OKC head coach Mark Daigneault.

Final Thoughts

Chet Holmgren will be one of the best defensive big men in the league this upcoming season, which should help his fantasy value go up exponentially. Holmgren will also bring some good value on the offensive side of the ball as well with his efficient shooting and ability to get buckets from all three levels. Holmgren will bring you several wins in your redrafts and in DFS settings with getting a variety of stats each game he plays.
