Panthers vs Chargers DFS Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em | September 15, 2024

Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Week 2. The Chargers had a decent outing against the Los Vegas Raiders in Week 1, securing a win at home. On the other hand, the Panthers looked as bad or worse than they did all last season in a loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The Jim Harbaugh-led Chargers will look to grind out a win on the ground while the lackluster Panthers will probably pass early and often. Based on those assumptions, taking mostly chargers in this matchup could be the best option for DFS managers.

Gus Edwards, RB, Los Angeles Chargers (DraftKings $7K)

Gus Edwards is a great value going into this contest, considering how much goal-line work he could get. Dobbins is the much more flashy pick in this Chargers offense and did well in week one, but Edwards still had more rushing attempts. The price Edwards is going for on DraftKings makes him a solid option.

This offense will look to grind out the game on the ground and that is Edwards’s forte. His performance will probably not be flashy, but he could break a couple of rush attempts for 10-plus yards along with a touchdown at the goal line.

Xavier Legette, WR, Carolina Panthers (DraftKings $5.8K)

Xavier Legette, the South Carolina product, will look to build on his solid rookie debut in the NFL. Legette saw more run because of the blowout that ensued last week and that very well could happen again.

Legette played 58% of snaps and ran a route on 66% of pass plays. He took advantage of those opportunities, snagging four of his seven targets for 35 yards. Those stats do not jump off the paper, but Legette could be put in a similar situation which could yield value based on his price on DraftKings.

Joshua Palmer, WR, Los Angeles Chargers (DraftKings $8K)

Joshua Palmer had an underwhelming performance last week and that trend could continue. Palmer caught two of four targets for 15 yards last Sunday. Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston both caught more targets for more yards. Granted, both of them had schemed looks in week one, but one has to wonder, why was Palmer not receiving any schemed looks?

Palmer is currently listed as questionable for week two after not being a full participant in practice this week. He is expected to suit up for this matchup but will need to be a full participant on Friday to avoid an injury designation.

Adam Thielen, WR, Carolina Panthers (DraftKings $8.6K)

Adam Thielen had a serviceable week one considering the situation and probably will match those numbers in this matchup. The problem with Thielen is the price a manager must pay to play him in a lineup.

Thielen had the most receiving yards of any Panthers wideout in week one, with 49 yards, but that output is not going to win any contests at the price a manager has to pay. Legette and Jonathan Mingo could see the field as much as he does if the game is a blowout and are much cheaper on DraftKings.

Lock of the Game

Ladd McConkey, WR, Los Angeles Chargers, (DraftKings $9.4K)

Ladd McConkey had a great game to start his NFL career and could follow it up with a performance just as impactful for managers. McConkey led Chargers receivers in targets in week one and scored a touchdown in garbage time. Regardless of how the touchdown came, he showed Justin Herbert his ability to get open.

The Chargers will probably run the ball most of the game, but pass situations will come up and McConkey proved he is just as capable as any receiver in this offense of performing.

Fade of the Game

Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers (DraftKings $9K)

Bryce Young underperformed in his Week 1 start and nothing shows he will bounce back in Week 2. Young threw two interceptions while completing only 13 of his 30 passing attempts.

Young could see a decent pass rush this week with Khalil Mack on the defensive line of the Chargers. Young is also not known for his rushing upside, which would be the only reason to start him with how badly he has performed until this point in his career. It is safe to not take Young in any DFS contest until he proves he can consistently complete pass attempts.
