Cedric Mullins has been one of the most electric players to start the season for not just the Orioles but all of Major League Baseball through the first five games. Not many people have been looking at Mullins as a legit fantasy option heading into the season, but he has been one of those players this season who has been a consistent RBI machine thus far. He is tied for the league lead in RBIs with Aaron Judge at ten through the first five games.
Mullins’s Opening Day Explosion
Mullins’s electric opening day was the major catalyst to start this season on the right foot, as he had two Home Runs and five RBIs. That game was by far the best game of his season thus far this season where he had 16 fantasy points on ESPN’s platform. That performance by him was one of those performances that changed a lot of people’s minds about him heading the rest of the way. Mullins, the rest of the Toronto Series had a lackluster fantasy production, but had a three-point fantasy day in the other O’s win in game 3 of the series. But he did bounce back in the Orioles’ home opener.
Mullins’s Home Opener Performance
Mullins had seven fantasy points in the home opener on Monday with his four RBIs in the game on two hits against the Red Sox. That was a huge bounce-back performance for not only him but the rest of the Orioles offensively after a lackluster series finale up in Toronto against Chris Bassitt. These two performances show that Mullins can be one of the most productive players in fantasy if he can stay consistent at all times, especially if the Orioles want to be contenders in the AL East, especially with how the Yankees are currently swinging the Bats at this very moment.
Mullins will be a boom or bust player in fantasy throughout the season if he gets into the slumps that he has been known to get into, but I think he’s showing a better approach at the plate thus far and will have an overall productive season for the Orioles to warrant some plays in DFS lineups and maybe a warrant pickup off waivers in the redraft leagues.
Conclusion
Keep an eye on Cedric Mullins throughout the rest of the regular season, especially if he can keep up this RBI production from the first five games of the season. The Orioles have been resurgent on the offensive side of the ball this season, thus far, and Mullins has been a big part of that resurgence for the O’s so far this season, and I think he will continue that production enough to be a warranted option in fantasy baseball throughout the rest of the season.
