These two franchises had some high expectations coming into the 2024 season but both were unable to make it to October. Cardinals thought 2023 was a fluke down year while the Giants thought they had snatched Aaron Judge or Carlos Correa in the offseason which both did not happen. With the last series of the regular season starts, both teams look to take any momentum into the offseason but that both teams have a lot of questions to answer for. Will this teams sell or try to make big splashes for 2025?
Cardinals at Giants DFS Start
Cardinals OF Brendan Donovan($7,000 on DraftKings)
No Cardinals players have had at bats against the Giants starting pitcher tonight and while the majority of the Cardinals superstars had a season that they want to forget, utility player Brendan Donovan has had an excellent year. He has had a career year in the majority of the statistics and he has made himself as an undeniable part of this franchise for the foreseeable future. As it pertains to tonight, Donavon has been one of the hotter hitters for St. Louis in the recent weeks as he is hitting .306 in his last 30 games. He is one of the most consistent hitters in the game of baseball so it’s the best value pick for DFS in this ballgame.
Giants OF Mike Yastrzemski($6,600 on DraftKings)
Yastrzemski has not had the greatest of seasons and it seems he won’t be able to reach that high ceiling that many people had for him after his rookie season. But Yaz is clearly an everyday player in the majors even with the ups and downs. The Giants outfielder has not been hitting great lately but this is a favorable matchup has he is hitting .250 in eight at bats against Miles Mikolas. Normally, this would be an easy sit but there is some underrated value on starting Yastrezemski in this matchup.
Cardinals at Giants DFS Sit
Cardinals OF Jordan Walker($5,400 on Draft Kings)
Most baseball purists believed that Jordan Walker was going to take a major leap in his second season in the majors. A promising 2023 felt like the tip of the iceberg for one of the most talented players in the Cardinals organization. But 2024 has been a dreadful one for Walker who has only played in 48 games this season as he has been called up and down throughout the year. With Walker probably getting an opportunity this last series, I would stay away and DraftKings has him higher then expected as it pertains to his price point.
Giants 1B Mark Canha($6,200 on DraftKings)
Mark Canha has been moving all over the league over the last couple of seasons and now being in the bay area, things haven’t gone his way as well. Not just that, but this is a brutal matchup and at this price point, it seems like too much of a risk to start Canha. The Giants first basemen is 1 for 12 against the St. Louis starter in his career and with him being the lone Giant to have over 10 at bats against him, there is enough sample size to have the conviction to sit him on Friday night.
