Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Kansas City Chiefs DFS Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em| Week 9

The 4-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers travel to Kansas City to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night. Kansas City is atop the AFC West at 7-0 and looks to keep it rolling in primetime. Tampa Bay has been hit hard by injury at the wideout position, as they will again be without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Kansas City has dealt with injuries on the offensive side of the ball as well but continues to churn out wins. Chiefs Coach Andy Reid stated recent acquisition DeAndre Hopkins will be more involved this week, as he settles into the offensive playbook.

Here are a few of the players we are heavily leaning on in this game. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance in a favorable matchup.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cade Otton ($4.5k DraftKings and $6.1k Fanduel)

Cade Otton exploded last week finishing as week eight overall TE1. Otton has climbed his way up to the overall TE6 in fantasy and stands to benefit most from the absence of Evans and Godwin. Last week, in the first game without both wideouts, Otton commanded a 20% target and a 90% catch rate. The results were nine catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. We could argue that Otton should be our DFS lock.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy ($6.3k DraftKings and $7.1k Fanduel)

We like Worthy because he represents the big play ability tied to Patrick Mahomes and has seen an uptick in targets since the Rashee Rice injury. In Week 8, Worthy commanded a 21.1% target share and nearly a 30% air yard share. The only thing missing is the expected production off that volume, but Worthy did score a touchdown last week. In addition, he gets a Buccaneers secondary that is bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed per game and receiving yards per game to perimeter wideouts.

Buccaneers vs. Chiefs DFS Sit ‘Ems

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we recommend sitting in this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Rachaad White ($5.8k DraftKings and $6.5k Fanduel)

Rachaad White has been very good of late but that has been mostly of his receiving work. Kansas City’s defense is top 6 in explosive run rate, rising yards allowed, and missed tackle rate. We just do not like the matchup even though White has been a top 17 running back the past two games.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Semaje Perine ($4.9k DraftKings and $5k Fanduel)

This is by no means earth-shattering but there are far too many other options to use Monday Night than Perine. In Week 8 versus Las Vegas, Perine had zero rushes and 2 catches, and just 18 touches in the last three games. This was our easiest DFS decision in this contest.

Total Apex Lock of the Game

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt ($6.4k DraftKings and $8.4k Fanduel)

We will go with Kareem Hunt as our DFS lock this week, Hunt has finished as top 24 back in his three starts as the Chiefs feature back. Hunt gets the goal line carries much the same as he did in Cleveland. That provides us with the nice floor we seek for our lock recommendation. Last week, Hunt finished with 22 touches and a touchdown, not a great production but the volume is there. This week he faces the Buccaneer’s defense that has allowed the most explosive rushes and is bottom half in the league in rushing yards allowed.

Total Apex Fade of the Game

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield ($6.5k DraftKings and $8.5k Fanduel)

We know you are not sitting Baker Mayfield this week, as he enters as overall QB2, but this week presents a difficult match. Kansas City’s pass defense is top 10 in yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, and completion percentage over expectation (CPOE). Baker has been very steady all year in the passing game for the Buccaneers, finishing as a QB1 every week but one, but temper expectations in a tough spot.

Conclusion

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce do not need to start recommendations for this game. However, Mahomes stats place him in the QB2 range but you can not sit him based on where you drafted him and his weekly potential. This Monday Night game features a decent implied 46.5-point game total and has plenty of DFS options between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
