Bryce Young 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Is a Year 2 Breakout in Store?

Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers Chargers

Bryce Young will be one of the most interesting young quarterbacks in fantasy football this season. Young is entering his second season with the Carolina Panthers after being drafted 1st overall out of Alabama a year ago. The 22-year-old had a lackluster first season, throwing for 2877 yards, and was outshined by fellow rookie QB C.J. Stroud.

However, going into year 2, there is a lot to like about Young’s improved situation. Carolina’s front office brought in a lot of offensive talent to help out their future QB. As he continues to develop, Bryce Young has a chance for a breakout season this year.

In a league currently full of quarterback talent, can Bryce Young propel himself up the ranks?

In 2023, Bryce Young threw the ball 527 times, with a completion percentage of 59.8%. This managed to accumulate 2877 yards, and only 11 passing touchdowns. He wasn’t very effective on the ground either, rushing for only 253 yards and 0 TD.

Young played 16 of the Panthers’ 17 regular season games last year, and with a record of 2-15, they were far from making the playoffs. In those 16 games, Bryce tallied 156.4 fantasy points, averaging 9.78 points per game, which was good enough for the 23rd most points by a QB last season. The only game he missed was a week 3 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

Bryce should have a much more productive season this year with the addition of weapons on offense. Carolina brought in Diontae Johnson via a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to be their wide receiver 1 for this season. They also drafted Xavier Legette (WR), Jonathon Brooks (RB), and Ja’Tavion Sanders (TE) to help boost the offense.

Fantasy Pros has Young ranked as the 192nd overall pick in fantasy drafts and the 29th quarterback off the board. However, he could surpass expectations and be a solid backup QB 2 for any team this season.

In 2024, I project 550-600 pass attempts as his team becomes more confident in him throwing the ball. Also, with these new receiving threats, I expect him to accumulate around 3300-3600 passing yards and 15-20 touchdowns. However, don’t expect much improvement on the ground. I only expect about 300-400 rushing yards and maybe 1-2 rushing touchdowns.

Final Thoughts

Bryce Young is still very young, but he clearly has the talent to be great, as he was drafted number 1 overall in the NFL draft. That being said, after an awful rookie season, he needs to prove himself this year. His excuse in 2023 was he had zero talent around him. He doesn’t have that excuse this season and has every reason to thrive in 2024.

Expect Bryce Young to be a top-20 quarterback this year from a fantasy perspective. He is not a bad option to have on your bench behind your QB 1. If he can stay fully healthy, which he should, Young will have a solid year, with as much potential as any of the other young quarterbacks in the league.
