Philadelphia Phillies phenom Bryce Harper has been a big reason for the Phillies having the best record in the National League for most of the season. But as the Phillies have struggled since the All-Star break, that included Harper. The Phillies are in a desperate situation where the rest of the National League is catching up with the Phillies which means its leaders need to step up to get things turned around. Bryce Harper has had some rough stretches since the all-star break but it seems things are turning around.
Rough Stretch During Post-All-Star Break
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper has done it all in 2024. Harper has switched positions and continues to be seen as one of the marketable players in the game. But Harper as well as the Phillies went through a season’s worst weeks of games. Not just was it a season’s worst stretch for Harper but even for his career.
Harper went through a 1 for 30 stretch at the plate. Most MLB players will never go through a week like that but it happened to one of the game’s best. Rightfully so, this made fantasy owners and fans of the Phillies panic. Harper does only strike out 21% of the time so the stretch couldn’t have been worse but 1 for 30 isn’t good in any sense.
Fantasy owners surely picked Harper as one of their top 3 picks and those types of weeks can lose an owner a week. Every week certainly matters in fantasy when owners are battling for playoff positions or seedings. Especially because Harper was a negative to have in the lineup on a daily basis for more than a week. Outside of Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos, the Phillies as a team has been struggling offensively.
No Need to Panic
The great thing about Harper is that those awful numbers will always turn around for him. Even with a 1 for 30 stretch, Harper is still having a fantastic season for fantasy owners. There is no need for fantasy owners to push any panic button on pulling the Phillies stud out of their lineup. Since that stretch, Harper has had four multi-hit games over the last nine games which included two home runs and five runs batted in.
If you have Bryce Harper on any of your fantasy teams, unless you have a backup who is insanely productive at the moment, there should be no reason to take him out of the lineup. Harper is hitting .279 with 26 home runs and 72 runs batted in. Harper is fifth in the National League in home runs and ninth in runs batted in. Harper has delivered for the Phillies and in fantasy. Harper has been less injury prone than in the previous two seasons which has led to another memorable season for one of the faces of baseball.
