To open up the 2024 season, the Dallas Cowboys will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns on Sunday, September 8th. Dallas is coming off back-to-back NFC East divisional titles, while the Browns had a successful 11-6 season with Joe Flacco under center for most of the season.
For the Cowboys, running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook signed in the offseason. However, the biggest deal this offseason was extending wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a massive four year, $136 million deal. The Browns will be without running back Nick Chubb while he rehabs from a torn ACL that ended his 2023 season. Deshaun Watson is back from his injury and he has a solid group of wide receivers at his disposal.
Cleveland Browns vs. Dallas Cowboys DFS Start ‘Ems
Here are a few of the players that we are leaning on heavily in this game. These players are in a good spot to put together a solid performance and have a favorable matchup.
Jake Ferguson, Tight End, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $5.2K, Fanduel: $6K)
With Brandin Cooks a bit banged up and Dallas lacking a legitimate third receiving option, Jake Ferguson should get plenty of looks in the passing game. Last season, Ferguson caught 71 passes on 102 targets, for 761 yards and five touchdowns. He was one of Dak Prescott‘s favorite red zone targets in 2023, finishing first in the NFL with 24 targets. He should continue to rack up opportunities in 2024.
Jerome Ford, Running Back, Cleveland Browns (DraftKings: $5.5K, Fanduel: $6.2K)
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys finished directly in the middle of the pack in rushing yards allowed with 112.4 yards allowed per game. On the flip side, the Browns ran for 118.6 yards per game. With Nick Chubb out for at least the first four games, for the most part, Jerome Ford has the backfield to himself. At his cost, Ford provides solid value and allows you to spend more on premium players.
Cleveland Browns vs. Dallas Cowboys DFS Sit ‘Ems
On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.
Ezekiel Elliott, Running Back, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $5.8K, Fanduel: $5.8K)
Zeke has not been very reliable over the past two seasons. In fact, his two worst yardage seasons of his career have come over the last two. If it weren’t for his 12 touchdown effort during his final season in his first Dallas stint, he would’ve been nearly unplayable in fantasy. Now, back with the Cowboys after a season in New England, Elliott could be in line for another 10+ touchdown season as a short-yardage/goalline back. That doesn’t bode well against a stout Browns defensive line.
Deshaun Watson, Quarterback, Cleveland Browns (DraftKings: $6K, Fanduel: $7.1K)
Historically, Deshaun Watson has been a pretty good dual threat quarterback. That was until his suspension in 2021 and his battle with injury the last two seasons. The Dallas pass rush will be able to contain whatever running ability Watson has left and the secondary has big play ability with DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs on the corners. Stay away from the Cleveland passing attack if possible.
Total Apex Lock of the Game
CeeDee Lamb, Wide Receiver, Dallas Cowboys (DraftKings: $8.9K, Fanduel: $9.3K)
Lamb will likely be the most targeted wide receiver in the NFL this season. The lack of a secondary option on the outside will get him close to his astounding 181 targets from last season. The cost is high, but he is one of the only near locks to produce at the elite, high level that is expected of him.

Jerry Jeudy, Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns (DraftKings: $5.1K, Fanduel: $5.7K)
So far in his career, Jerry Jeudy has been a bit of a disappointment. Going into the 2020 NFL Draft, Jeudy was looked at as a sure thing. He has been inconsistent and frustratingly average for fantasy football managers. Time will tell if the change of scenery and change in quarterback will unlock his potential. Stay away until it does though.
