Normally, players coming off a torn ACL need time to regain strength, but Breece Hall was a top fantasy asset right out of the gate and was a value in fantasy football drafts, especially in PPR.
The New York Jets running back suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 7 of 2022 and returned from a rehab-filled offseason in 2023 as a dynamic weapon in the offense. Even with no Aaron Rodgers and an injury-filled offensive line, the third-year superstar thrived off of usage alone in a bad offense last season.
With a presumed healthy Rodgers and an upgraded offensive line, the 23-year-old should be a top fantasy running back. But will that translate into more fantasy production for Hall with so many moving parts?
Breece Hall 2023 Stats and Production
Even without a fully healthy offseason, Breece Hall was the starter for Week 1 last year and was the only bright spot for the New York Jets besides wide receiver Garrett Wilson on offense. The former Iowa State second-round running back from 2022 in 17 games had 223 carries, 76 catches, 9 combined touchdowns, and finished with 1,585 total yards.
While Hall couldn’t get over 1,000 rushing, he was the featured engine on their offense and was a consistent pass catcher in one of the worst circumstances for a skill position player to be in. He was a third-rounder in fantasy drafts going into 2023 and had six games over 20 PPR fantasy points as the only runner behind Christian McCaffrey in PPR.
Breece Hall 2024 Fantasy Outlook
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini from Jet’s mandatory minicamp this past Tuesday, Breece Hall was working off to the side as a precaution and suffered a minor leg injury in OTAs. They also drafted two rookie running backs in the 2024 NFL Draft this offseason. The Jets also brought in veteran All-Pro return man Tarik Cohen on the roster, most likely for special teams.
While Hall’s receiving usage stayed consistent, his rushing yards fluctuation week to week, and his touchdown number could improve in 2024. With upgraded parts across the board on offense, it will be interesting if he can maintain his current ADP in PPR as a top-seven pick, according to FantasyPros as the second running back drafted.
Final Thoughts On Breece Hall
Breece Hall is being drafted above Jonathan Taylor, Jahmyr Gibbs, Saquon Barkley, Travis Etienne Jr., Kyren Williams, and Rachaad White in PPR. The Jets running back does carry the 28th toughest schedule against rushers, so his involvement as a receiver will have to continue into 2024 for him to pay off his current ADP.
Hall profiles as a three-down player for the Jets in 2024 despite not having the best-rushing floor on the ground last year. His highest marks were solid in 2023 but his floor was among the lowest with four games under double-digit fantasy points. Hall does deserve the benefit of the doubt, as he led all running backs in almost all key receiving metrics last season.
