Braxton Berrios 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Braxton Berrios

Braxton Berrios is a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins. He will be playing his sixth full season and turns 29 this October. Drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft, Berrios never caught a ball as a Patriot as an early injury kept him sidelined his entire rookie year. He was then picked up by the New York Jets, where he played for four years. His most lucrative contract with the team was a two-year, $12 million deal signed in 2022.

Berrios only played as a Jet for one year of that contract. A former Miami Gator for all four years in college, Berrios returned to the Sunshine State in 2023 when the Dolphins picked him up on a one-year deal. He has since resigned on another one-year contract for 2024. A return specialist in college, Braxton Berrios has operated as a special teams player each year in the NFL.

With 44.4 points in half-PPR scoring, Braxton Berrios finished as the WR106, averaging just under 2.8 points per game, making him an unownable fantasy asset in 2023. Currently, his best ball ADP is WR168 at 432 overall, according to data from FantasyPros. Last year, Berrios had 249 yards from scrimmage with 27 catches and one touchdown on 33 targets. He fielded a total of 41 kick and punt returns for 676 yards and no scores.

Berrios’ 2021 campaign with the Jets was the most productive of his career. The Jets rewarded him with a $12 million contract, and he appeared to be a rare gem found deep in the draft. The honeymoon was quickly over, however, and he has not eclipsed more than 450 receiving yards in any year of his career. His one year as a Dolphin resulted in his personal highest offensive snap share at 41.5%. Braxton Berrios was 4th among Dolphins WRs in both snaps and targets. He was sixth in team targets just behind explosive rookie De’Von Achane.

Berrios 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Ourlads’ depth chart currently has Braxton Berrios sitting out three-WR sets. As well, FantasyPros is putting Berrios as the 5th WR on the depth chart, behind incoming rookie Malik Washington. Although he lost target competition with Cedrick Wilson’s departure, the Dolphins have brought in longtime fantasy stud WR Odell Beckham Jr. Berrios’ outlook for seeing any appreciable amount of targets is fairly distant. For fantasy purposes, we should be more interested in the rookie unknown Washington as well as the proven asset in Beckham.

Beckham is no spring chicken. At 32 and already on the PUP list, a WR rotation behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle is likely. A sixth-round draftee as well, Washington is far from a guarantee to rotate in any time Beckham needs to rest his legs. However, we have several very consistent seasons of information on Braxton Berrios. True, the Dolphins picked up his offensive usage from how the Jets utilized him, but his best days are behind him. However, Berrios has a few tools that the Dolphins and head coach Mike McDaniel will continue to utilize.

A high-speed offense with inventive playcalling, Braxton Berrios can run after the catch out of the slot, carry out of the backfield, and throw the football. Ourlads.com projects Berrios to once again be the primary return specialist. There are several ways Berrios can score a touchdown, however, there is no reliable fantasy usage in his future. Both ESPN and FantasyPros are very pessimistic, each projecting less than 10 catches for about as many fantasy points.

Final Thoughts on Berrios

Two years ago, there might have been some light at the end of the tunnel for dynasty owners, but those who still have him need to drop him. I’m in line with consensus projections, putting him at 9.8 catches and 1 TD.

Touchdowns will come at some point, whether in the air or ground, but the chances of nabbing Braxton Berrios on that game in DFS are slim. He’ll make the 53-man roster and be active on gameday, but it’s curtains for his fantasy production. Washington and Jonnu Smith make better best ball dart throws to stack with Tua Tagovailoa.
