The Phillies took the first game of the four-game series with the Braves, coming back from a 4-0 deficit. Castellanos hit a go-ahead 2-run home run in the seventh inning that would be the final nail in the coffin for Atlanta. Tonight’s game is important for the Braves with Reynaldo Lopez facing Ranger Suarez. If the Braves can’t win tonight, it will be an uphill battle on Saturday and Sunday against the Phillies aces.
Braves vs Phillies Fantasy Starts

Brandon Marsh, OF, Philadelphia Phillies
Brandon Marsh is hot at the plate lately batting over .300 in the past two weeks and batting .346 in the past week including going 2-4 last night against the Braves. Marsh is only 1-8 in his career against Lopez, but if Reynaldo is pitching like he has most of the season then the Phillies will need any help they can get. Marsh might just be the hot bat to get something going for the Phillies.
Matt Olson, 1B, Atlanta Braves
Olson has continued to stay hot at the dish batting .346 in the past week with four home runs and twelve runs batted in. The Braves first baseman is batting .273 against Ranger Suarez and is batting .333 at Citizens Bank Park. Olson loves hitting in Philly so start him in your lineup and enjoy the results while they last.
Marcell Ozuna, DH, Atlanta Braves
Ozuna continues his chase of a triple crown season in Philly. Batting over .300 on the season and .321 the past month, you should continue to start Ozuna in your lineups. In a small sample size, he is only batting .238 against Suarez, but you don’t overthink this one. Ozuna should be in your starting lineup every day due to his consistency this season.
Braves vs Phillies Fantasy Sits
Whit Merrifield, 2B, Atlanta Braves
Merrifield has struggled at the plate the past few games, going 0-16 since he went 5-5 against the Twins earlier in the week. Even with that 5-5 performance mixed in he is still only 5-24 in his last five games. While it is not likely for this poor performance to continue for Whit, he shouldn’t be started in your lineups until he starts to heat up again at the plate.
Edmundo Sosa, 3B, Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies everyday third baseman Alec Bohm injured his hand swinging the bat Thursday against Atlanta. Edmundo Sosa took over at third to replace Bohm, but should not be relied on to replace Bohm in your fantasy lineups if Bohm misses any significant time. Sosa is 0-7 this week and only batting .222 in the past month. You can likely find a much better replacement for Bohm on your waiver wire rather than starting Sosa.
Bryson Stott, 2B, Philadelphia Phillies
Stott is having a relatively good stretch at the plate in the last two weeks but has started to cool off recently going 0-7 with three walks in his last three games. He is only 1-7 in his career against Reynaldo Lopez which means you shouldn’t start in him your fantasy lineup tonight against the Braves.
Braves vs Phillies Pitching Matchup
Reynaldo Lopez RHP (7-4, 2.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 119 Ks, 115.2 IP) vs Ranger Suarez LHP (11-5, 2.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 122 Ks, 124.1 IP)
Reynaldo Lopez is 2-2 since the all-star break, only allowing two runs in his last three starts. Lopez has struggled as of late since his hot start to the season and he has a tall task ahead of him taking on a stacked Phillies lineup in Philly. Lopez has allowed one run against the Phillies in two starts against them this season with eleven innings pitched. History says to start Lopez against the Phillies and hope for the best but there’s a chance the Phillies lineup could have a big day against Lopez seeing him for the third time.
Ranger Suarez last faced the Braves in July and went five innings allowing five runs. Since then he has allowed eight runs in his last three starts. While Suarez is having a good season, he has been cold lately. You should avoid starting Suarez against a surging Braves offense that has already had success this season off Suarez.
