Where to Watch: MLB.TV
The Boston Red Sox will wrap up their three-game set with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Detroit has taken the first two, with the first game not being close. Last night went to extra innings with the Red Sox taking a 9-7 lead in the 11th inning. Javier Baez smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to send the home crowd into a frenzy. Now, in order to avoid a sweep, the Red Sox have to face the reigning Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal. This is a matchup of two of the top offenses in the American League. Can the Tigers continue their dominance at home and sweep the Red Sox?

Key Stats
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are looking to avoid the sweep. While they were blown out in the first game, the offense showed why it is one of the most dangerous in the American League last night. Rafael Devers has been hot over the past seven games. He is slashing .400/.516/.680 in that span with two home runs and eight RBIs. Alex Bregman will need to step up, as he has only batted .250 over the past seven games.
Right-hander Hunter Dobbins takes the mound on Wednesday for the Red Sox. He had a solid outing against the Kansas City Royals on May 9th, giving up five hits over 6.0 innings of work. Dobbins struck out five in that outing. He hasn’t gone past six innings in his last three starts, which could be significant for this game. After 11 innings last night, the bullpen will be taxed. Boston will want Dobbins to have a solid outing to set up their bullpen for the weekend.
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers are scorching hot at the plate right now. They have won 13 of their last 18 games, scoring double-digit runs in six games. Javier Baez has led the offensive surge. Over the past 15 games, Baez is slashing .368/.400/.719 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. He hit a pair of three-run homers in last night’s game, including the game-winner. The team has jumped all over Boston’s mediocre pitching in the first two games of this series.
The Tigers are sending reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal to the mound. Don’t let the record deceive you. The left-hander has picked up right where he left off last season. He has given up two or fewer earned runs over his last five starts, averaging almost nine strikeouts per game. In that same period, he has only walked one batter. The Tigers have won four of their last five starts, with the only loss being in extra innings in late April.

Prediction
The Detroit Tigers are 16-5 at home, and Skubal is on the mound. Going against the Tigers in this situation seems extremely foolish. The more interesting question is the over/under. Skubal doesn’t give up many runs, but the Boston Red Sox are an above-average offense. Furthermore, the Tigers could jump all over a tired bullpen. However, after two straight shootouts, I’m taking the under. I love the plus odds, and I’m expecting less offense tomorrow with an ace on the mound.
