These first two days of the final major for the U.S. Open on the tennis calendar this season have delivered from all standpoints. There have been record-setting attendances on both nights and yesterday, the tournament saw the longest match in the history of the U.S. Open.
As the grand slam turns to the second round, there are some must-see matchups and it looks like the trend of upsets has a good chance of continuing. With the tournament proving why it is the best it’s ever been, it’s time to get in on some DFS for the U.S. Open.
U.S. Open Women’s DFS Value Picks
American Peyton Stearns tries to continue the home country’s momentum with a value at $7,100 in her second-round match against the 12th-seeded Daria Kasatkina. Stearns has had a very under-the-radar summer which includes quarterfinal appearances in Toronto and Cleveland.
In the first round of this year’s U.S. Open, the American took out Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets. Kasatkina is usually a reliable player but she has not played great tennis at all during this most recent hard-court swing. Stearns has been on fire over the last month and you can’t say that about the 12 seed so pick the American.
The next women’s player to pick is 24th-seeded Donna Vekić at $9,000 in her second-round match against Greet Minnen. Since making the semifinals at Wimbledon, Vekić has arguably been one of the best women’s players in the world. Vekić followed up that semifinal with a silver medal at the Olympics.
The Croatian momentum doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Minnen hasn’t won consecutive matches in over two months and this is the perfect opponent to keep the Vekić train chugging along. This is one of the higher price points but this one feels like almost a sure thing.
U.S. Open Mens DFS Value Picks
Another upset on the men’s side for the U.S. Open could be brewing when 38-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils at $6,900 takes on the eighth-seeded Casper Ruud. Ruud had been one of the most consistent and reliable players on the men’s tour which even included a finals appearance at the U.S. Open just two years ago.
But since his semifinal appearance at the French Open this year, Ruud has struggled mightily which includes losing handily in the majority of matches. Monfils has been playing some great tennis as of late. In Cincinnati, Monfils defeated Montreal champion Alexei Popyrin and four-time major champion Carlos Alcaraz. This has a potential upset written all over it and it seems you can get a lot of value for putting your chips with the 38-year-old.
