ATP/WTA Tennis Canada DFS Value Picks (8/9)

ATP/WTA

It is a round of 16 day for both the women in Toronto and the men in Montreal on the ATP Tour. Major upsets in both cities have led to a fascinating round of 16s in Canada. For the men, the top 10 seeds, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, both lost yesterday. On the WTA, Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys, and fifth-seeded Daria Kasatkina all fell. This leaves a perfect opportunity for daily fantasy as there are a lot of players who are normally not in a round of 16 of a Masters 1000 event.

The number four ranked American, Sebastian Korda, brings some great value on day 4 of the ATP National Bank Open. Korda faces off against number one ranked American Taylor Fritz in a Round of 32 match that is being played today due to it being rained out last night. Just last week, Korda won his second career title in Washington D.C., which is a 500-level event. While Fritz went down to Paris to play in the Olympics and lost in the third round. The change from playing on the red clay at Roland Garros to playing on the fast, hard courts in Canada is a drastic change. Not only is Korda already used to playing on the North American hard courts, but the 24-year-old is in form. At a $6,200 value for Korda today, that seems like a potential American-on-American upset.

Another great value ATP pick is to select Italian Matteo Arnaldi at $7,300 to come through his match against the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. While Fokina is coming off of the upset of the tournament by beating the number three-seeded Medvedev, it hasn’t been a good season for the Spaniard after having a great 2023. Meanwhile, Italy has had pretty consistent results this season. The value is good for Arnaldi as, based on this season, Fokina would be expected to drop off after such a huge win the day before.

WTA Value Pick of the Day

The WTA pick of the day in Toronto is to pick number six seed Liudmila Samsonova at $6,000 to beat Elise Mertens. Samsonova is the favorite based on seeding, but not anywhere else. Mertens is coming off a massive win over hard-court aficionado Naomi Osaka. However, based on results this season, Mertens usually picks up one huge win in these tournaments and then loses the match after. Samsonova is the higher-ranked player and came off of a dominating win yesterday to begin her tournament. Samsonova getting this value is just too hard to pass up, especially against a player like Mertens, who has much stronger doubles results than singles.
