ATP/WTA Miami Picks 3/20

wta atp

This is a great day in the tournament, as this is the first day that the women’s (WTA) tennis seeds are in action and this is the final day of all unseeded men’s tennis players (ATP) playing in the first round. The tournament might feel like it starts tomorrow but tons of the top women’s players in the world take center stage leading to another must-watch day of tennis.

With that being said, there are some big matches and potential major upsets that could shock the world early down in South Beach. While the men’s tourney doesn’t kick into high gear until Friday, this tournament finally feels like it’s off to the races.

Leylah Fernandez(-210) vs. Alycia Parks(+172)–> Prediction: Parks

This is my upset special of Thursday’s action in Miami and I am going with an American underdog. Fernandez is one of the more consistent players on tour but she hasn’t had major wins on tour in a long while and Parks can have this match played on her racquet with the power she generates. Parks is ready for a big splash and this is the match that could propel her to a deep run.

Liudmila Samsonova(-102) vs. Naomi Osaka(-118)–> Prediction: Osaka

This is the closest match of day three, as this will be one to watch on the women’s side. The reason to go with the former four-time major champion is that she is coming off her most resilient victory in years after coming back from a set and a break on Tuesday. Osaka has been waiting for some sort of momentum since her paternity leave and Tuesday felt like real momentum. The matchup is perfect for her as well as Samsonova hits the ball with high velocity, which is the type of player Osaka feels the most comfortable against.

Joao Fonseca(-320) vs. Learner Tien(+255)–> Prediction: Fonseca

This is the most sure thing bet of the picks of today. This is the true battle of the future as both these teenagers have made huge impacts in 2025. This is the tastiest mens match of Day 3 and both players have such great futures. But in the here and now, the Brazilian superstar is a strong favorite as he has won two of the last three tournaments that he has played which shows that he is in peak form while Tien hasn’t had any major wins since the Australian Open.

Conclusion for ATP and WTA

To wrap things up heading into day three of the Miami Open, it is time to see a perfect blend of some of the current best players in the world while also getting a great look at the next 20 years of tennis. The balance of young and veteran players is why tennis is peaking in 2025. While the sport lost so many all-time greats, the young generation is here and there so many players with such huge fanbases even before they turn 21. Tennis turnouts have been ready for a post big 3 and Serena world and day three of this 1000 event will show that on full display for the ATP and WTA.
