ATP/ WTA Madrid Picks for April 25th, 2025

We have hit the two most important weeks of the clay court for the ATP/ WTA season, other than Roland Garros which starts on May 25th. Because from now until May 18th, there will be two Masters 1000 events being played.

This feels like the closest thing to major over the next four weeks, as the top players look to gain some serious momentum heading into the second major of the year. Every player has something meaningful to play for over the next month. If it’s legacy, points, ranking or matches to learn to play on clay. These two weeks should let us know who will make deep runs in Paris for WTA/ATP.

Emma Raducanu(-102) vs. (-118)–> Prediction: Kostyuk

This is a tight one to call but I like the seeded player in this one for WTA, who is Kostyuk. It is always nice to see the former U.S. Open Champion in the win column but this is not a surface in which she does great on. Kostyuk is the most emotional player in the women’s game but she still can get wins over anyone. While this will be a tricky match for Kostyuk vs. Raducanu, she is the one with more firepower and on a surface like clay, that is a decider on usually who will come out the victor.

Katie Boulter(+280) vs. Jasmine Paolini(-420)–> Prediction: Paolini

This is a blockbuster round two matchup on the ladies side of the draw. This time of year last year, Paolini was an unknown player but then she went to the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon. Boutler also wasn’t a well known player but now she is squarely seeded at most events. Boulter is a very solid player but on this surface, I am shocked the Italian isn’t a bigger favorite as this is her best surface over Boulter. Paolini will be a threat to have another big run over the next month and a half on the clay.

Laslo Djere(+152) vs. Daniil Medvedev(-184)  Prediction: Djere

This is my upset of the day. Medvedev has been on the downturn the last two years and he is also has never been confident on the clay. Djere on the other hand has always gotten very solid results on the dirt. This is a situation in which to take a risk and take the upset. Djere might not be a top 30 talent but on the clay, he will be confident that he can make a splash result against a player that would early beat him on any other surface.

Conclusion on ATP/ WTA

To wrap things things up, this is day one of all of the seeded players being in action on both the men’s and woman’s sides of the draw. With so many top players in action, that makes for some exciting tennis. Nothing beats the early days of tournaments because while its fun when the top players play the top players, it is fun when everyone is still alive and seeing so many of the fan favorites at once. So many players are ready for that big result and these two weeks will allow those players to try to make a statement.
