ATP Rotterdam/ WTA Abu Dhabi Picks February 8, 2025

This is the biggest weekend of tennis since the end of this year’s Australian Open two weeks. Most of the top players were among three 500-level events, which are the third biggest tournaments of the year as it pertains to ranking points. On Saturday in Rotterdam, it’s the semifinal day as three of the final four are in the world’s top 10. While on the women’s side in Abu Dhabi, it’s finals day with two players that nobody would have picked to even go deep in the tournament. This will be a fun weekend of tennis to enjoy before the big game on Sunday.

ATP Rotterdam Picks

Alex De Minaur vs. Mattia Bellucci–> Pick: De Minaur

The Italian Bellucci has been the story of the tournament in the Netherlands. Bellucci ranks 92 in the world coming into this week but he has shocked the world with two wins over the top 10 wins which were over Medvedev and Tsitsipas. But he is facing the most consistent tennis player in the world, Alex De Minaur.

The Aussie of course has gone under the radar as he continues to show what being solid can take you to. The Demon has not dropped a set this week and this feels like one top-10 player too many for the Italian. Just getting to this point is the win for Bellucci as this could set him up for a big year but this should be an easy victory to put the Demon in the Rotterdam final.

Hubert Hurkacz vs. Carlos Alcaraz–> Pick: Alcaraz

The former world number one has not been playing great tennis since his Wimbledon title in July which has made him go under the radar in the tennis world since then. But he has been in top form and not messing this week in Rotterdam.

While it is great to see fellow top 10 player Hurkacz playing some great tennis this week, this is a brutal matchup for Hurkacz. Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 3-0 with all three matches taking place on a hard court. Alcaraz needs this title more than any player as he is looking to regain top form once again. It’s a good idea to have the four-time major champion in the tournament final on Sunday.

Belinda Bencic vs. Ashlyn Krueger–> Pick: Bencic

This match will have a fantastic story no matter who hoists the trophy on Saturday. Krueger has been a player many expected to be in this position a while ago but she finally has she only has one title to her name so far. She is 20 years old, so a win here could take her game to the next level. But the American is playing a Swiss veteran who won’t be nervous for a moment this is.

The fact that Bencic had her first child in 2024 and now here she is in a final to start 2025. Bencic had an emotional win yesterday over top-seeded Rybakina but she will be ready to go with all of her experience to win her ninth title.

Conclusion

To wrap up a full day of Saturday tennis, this should not disappoint for ATP Rotterdam and WTA Abu Dhabi. The men’s part of the day should be an extremely high level of tennis as most of these players know what it’s like to be this deep in the tournament. With no Sinner and Zverev this week, this is a massive week for Alacarz who needs to start to climb his way back from a deficit back into the top two in the world. But the women’s side will be a tremendous story no matter who comes out the victor. Either a young and rising American or a new mother will hoist a massive trophy.
