It is game two of the National League Wild Card series between the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves. After having to play a double header on Monday to save their season, the Braves then had to fly across the country to San Diego and played like that last night. The Padres dominated the Braves with a 4-0 win in game one and now the Braves season is on the line. The game ones of this years Wild Card round made it tough for DFS players but game two’s should get DFS back on track.
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres DFS Starts
Atlanta Braves OF Jorge Soler (7,000 on Draft Kings)
This Braves outfielder is made for the postseason. When Atlanta won the title in 2021, Soler made a lot of the major moments with his bat. Now after reuniting with the franchise that got him a ring, it feels like the Braves need a spark to jolt them into forcing a game three in this Wild Card Series.
This might seem like too high of a price point for a player is hasn’t had his power touch of late but this is a guy with such good upside, especially in a game as meaningful as this. In tonight’s game, go all in and select Soler because surely if the Braves win two, it could be because of a big swing by the Braves outfielder.
San Diego Padres OF Jurickson Profar ($7,600 on DraftKings)
Profar was one of the biggest surprises of the Padres season. The Padres outfielder has always been very talented but it never seemed to come through in a meaningful way until the 2024 season. Now Profar is hitting third and in between superstars Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis.
After a hitless performance in game one, the switch hitter will be hitting right handed and he has a lot of success as a righty. Profar would like to make an impact this series and after a great night for Tatis last night, they might try to pitch around him which means Profar will see some pitches to hit. This is the best value start for game two of this series.
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres DFS Sits
Atlanta Braves SS Orlando Arcia ($4,600 on DraftKings)
The Atlanta Braves shortstop’s value on DraftKings will make many people want to get him. He is a noticeable name and not at a high price point so many DFS players will want to snatch him for both the value and the opportunity to get another star player. But Arcia is not swinging a good bat whatsoever at the moment.
Arcia is hitting .190 over his last 30 games and while normally he has been a player with some playoff success, that doesn’t mean DFS players can afford to take that risk hoping that it could happen. Fantasy owners should not be trying to overthink or outsmart people. Make the smart decisions and that is to not take Orlando Arcia in game two.
San Diego Padres OF Jackson Merrill ($8,000)
Jackson Merrill should be the N.L. Rookie of the Year for 2024 but this is a bad matchup. Max Fried is pitching for the Atlanta Braves and with that, this becomes a lefty-lefty matchup and in the playoffs, that means bad things. Merrill for the most part should be a start if the Padres roll on in the playoffs but not tonight.
Fried is one of the best left handed pitchers against left handed hitters in the game of baseball. Not just that but $8,000 is an extremely high price point for this matchup. This is definitely a player who is being overvalued squarely based on the season more than looking deep into the matchup.
