Ashton Jeanty 2024 Devy Outlook

Out of Frisco, Texas in the class of 2022, Ashton Jeanty was a three-star prospect and ranked as the number 90 running back and the number 1,284 overall recruit according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Jeanty exploded into the scene as a true freshman, running for 821 yards and seven touchdowns on 156 carries. In his sophomore year, he took the main share of the carries, running for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns on 220 carries. He also added 43 receptions for 569 yards and five more touchdowns.

Over his first two seasons at Boise State, he split carries with the since-departed George Holani. Together, they formed one of the best-running duos in the country. In their two seasons together, Jeanty and Holani combined to run for 4,073 yards and 38 touchdowns. They also added 1,074 yards receiving and eight touchdowns on 98 receptions. Playing in the Mountain West doesn’t do him any favors with proving his talent against top-notch competition though. He will need to continue to dominate at this level in order to dispel some of the questions.

Ashton Jeanty as a Player

Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty carries the ball for a touchdown as the Oregon Ducks host the Boise State Broncos Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.

Jeanty has prototypical running back thickness at 215 lbs, even if he is a bit on the short side at 5”9’. He isn’t a prototypical between-the-tackles running back, but his vision, strength, and burst get him to the second and third levels of the defense. He is effective in tight spaces because of his agility and array of jukes and moves, and he erases pursuit angles with his top-end speed.

He is truly a dual-threat option out of the backfield with his route running and hands. In 2023, Jeanty had 43 receptions for 569 yards and five touchdowns. He became the first running back since 2019 to run for 1,000+ yards and have 500+ yards receiving.

Ashton Jeanty Devy Outlook

His sophomore year put him on the NFL Draft radar and he will have a legitimate choice to make after the 2024 season. If he were to come out after this season, he could be a top-five running back or potentially even drop to towards the nine to ten range due to the abundance of draft-eligible running backs. His versatility could make him an intriguing rotational back in the NFL, even if he has more to prove against higher-caliber competition.

In my devy rankings, Ashton Jeanty is ranked as the 11th overall running back and ninth among 2025 draft-eligible RBs. I believe his ceiling is RB4, with an RB12 floor…depending on medicals and testing. The depth at the running back position is the strength of the 2025 NFL Draft. Jeanty will have to compete with the likes of TreVeyon Henderson, Ollie Gordon, Quinshon Judkins, DJ Giddens, Devin Neal, and a slew of others for NFL teams’ attention.
