Alexis Lafreniere is coming off his best season by far in the NHL, with 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games, a career-high by over 18 points which was 37 in 22-23, and was even better in the Playoffs for the Rangers.
Alexis Lafreniere put up 8 goals and 14 points in 16 games, helping the Rangers defeat the Washington Capitals in round 1, and the Carolina Hurricanes in round 2 before losing to the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers in 6 games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Alexis Lafreniere’s Career So Far
Before the NHL, Alexis Lafreniere was selected 1st overall in the QMJHL Draft by the Rimouski Océanic, the same Junior Hockey team that Sidney Crosby played for.
Lafreniere won the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award and was named to the First All-Star team in his rookie season at Rimouski Océanic, he also scored 42 goals, the most goals scored by a rookie since Sidney Crosby in 2004.
Alexis Lafreniere was eventually drafted once again 1st overall but this time by the New York Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Lafreniere made his NHL Debut in January of 2021, where in his rookie season at only 19 years old he scored 12 goals and had 21 points in 56 games, the season was short due to COVID.
His age-20 season featured him playing in 79 of 82 games that season. He had 19 goals and 31 points in the regular season and played 20 playoff games that year with the Rangers. At 20 years and 208 days, he became the youngest Rangers player with a playoff point since Steven Rice who was 19 years old in 1991.
Lafreniere ended the postseason with 2 goals and 9 points in those 20 games, the Rangers lost to the Lightning in 6 games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
2022-23 was a step up in points for Lafreniere but down in goals, 16 goals, and 39 points in 81 regular season games, the Playoffs didn’t go well at all for Lafreniere with 7 games played and 0 goals and points.

Alexis Lafreniere is expected to be one of the 2nd Powerplay units to start the year. With Reilly Smith, Kaapo Kakko, Filip Chytil, and Jacob Trouba, he could easily play on the PP1 with an injury and or if he succeeds expectations.
