Friday night is the beginning of what seems to be one of the most marquee World Series battles in decades. Yes, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Yankees have faced off against each other before but in the year 2024, multiple faces of baseball will be facing off with this series surely being some of the most watched baseball games of the 21st century. With DFS in mind, that means that there are so many star players that you could have in your lineup in every game of the series. While that is exciting, that also means that extremely hard decisions have to be made.
New York Yankees at Los Angeles Dodgers DFS Start’em
New York Yankees 2B Gleyber Torres($6,800 on DraftKings)
I have written about Torres a lot in the postseason and the reason why is that he has been the unsung hero for this team in the playoffs. Torres got a lot of heat from the locals over his below-average defense and shortcomings at the plate, which those fans had the right to do. But since he was inserted into the leadoff spot, his offense and ability to get on base have changed this team and taken them to this point.
Getting players on base for superstars like Juan Soto and Aaron Judge has been a struggle for New York over the last couple of years but the difference this October has been Torres. Toress has four multi-hit games in the postseason and seven walks. Teams have no choice but to just pitch to him due to the Goliaths that wait behind him. With Torres still being valued under $7,000 by DraftKings, this should be an easy start if you are looking for players on the Yankees.
Los Angeles Dodgers C Will Smith($6,000 on DraftKings)
In so many times this postseason, I have recommended to bench the Los Angeles Dodgers catcher. For the majority of those articles, it was a correct designation as Smith has not produced enough consistently at the plate to warrant a start. But I am switching tunes by telling DFS players to start him in game one of the World Series because he is coming off an impactful game to send the Los Angeles Dodgers to this series.
Smith hit a huge two-run home run to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a five-run lead in game six of the Championship Series and it finally felt like the money was off the back of Smith. Due to his inconsistencies at the plate, DraftKings values him right at $6,000 which is great value when a lot of the superstars have such high price points. In playing DFS in this series, you need to take a risk on players who are not superstars. Smith has all the talent and that home run last game should propel him into a good World Series.
New York Yankees at Los Angeles Dodgers DFS Sit’em
New York Yankees C Austin Wells($5,400 on DraftKings)
The Yankees backstop has had a fall from grace the moment the calendar turned to October. For the majority of the season, Wells was the Yankees cleanup hitter and one of the team’s most reliable hitters on a daily basis. Since the playoffs have begun, Wells has mightily struggled at the plate. The catcher is three for 33 in the playoffs with three runs batted in.
Manager Aaron Boone has even adjusted the lineup to him hitting eighth in the Yankees order which shows that he is even losing confidence in him. Wells has to show both his own team and DFS players that the player from the regular season is back before you can put him back in your lineup. It’s a low-risk move with not too much value.
Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Freddie Freeman($7,000 on DraftKings)
This choice to sit one of the best first basemen of the last 25 years all comes down to health. If Freeman was at 100% health, this would be an easy start against any Yankee right-handed pitcher but Freeman just isn’t healthy. Freeman has been in and out of the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup in this entire postseason. In the games he has played, he has had some production but has looked in pain in every aspect of his game. DraftKings rightfully doesn’t have him as one of the highest price-pointed guys in this game and that should tell DFS players something. Until he even looks 80% healthy, it feels like a good idea to start Freeman.
