Tight Ends Start’Em, Sit’Em: Week 6

tight ends

Five weeks into the season and finally tight ends are a fixture of importance in fantasy football. With 16 tight ends getting in double figures in Week 5, it gives hope for fantasy owners that their team can win a week based on a great tight end performance. While this is a huge position, it still doesn’t stray away from the fact that tight ends are still heavily touchdown-reliant in fantasy, and that is why these choices can make or break a week or season for fantasy owners.

Tight Ends Start’em: Week 6

Falcons TE Kyle Pitts

Pitts had been seen as a fantasy bust through the first four weeks after a career-low zero-catch game in week four. But in the Thursday night thriller, Pitts was a major factor in the offense. The former Florida Gator had a season-high 15.8 fantasy points with his seven catches for 88 yards on 8 targets. The Falcons offense hums when all of their big three are major factors and they had struggled to get Pitts going. The Falcons will play the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, which makes the emerging Pitts a must-start.

Jets TE Tyler Conklin

The Jets have been in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons after the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and the offense just hasn’t looked good. But outside of star receiver Garrett Wilson, it seems Conklin has risen to the next reliable player. People would assume that would be Allen Lazard but he continues to drop passes on a weekly basis. The Jets will host the Bills on Monday night and in the last two weeks, their defense has been gettable. So with that being said, it is time to have confidence in starting Conklin.

Tight Ends Sit’em: Week 6

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert

While many fantasy experts will have the Birds’ tight end as a top-10 start in Week 6, it doesn’t feel like the best of ideas. The Eagles are coming off a bye and they will be getting back both Devonta Smith and A.J. Brown from injury. Goedert has been by far and away the best Eagles pass catcher over the last two weeks but that was mostly because of the injuries at wide receiver.

The Eagles will be hosting the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and they have underperformed to begin the 2024 season. But when the Eagles have been at full strength this season, the tight end hasn’t been a major factor so stay away from Goedert.

Bills TE Dalton Kincaid

The Bills have been in a tailspin over the last two weeks. Just last week in the devastating loss against the Houston Texans, Josh Allen played his worst game in years. The Bills are really struggling to find reliable pass catchers for Allen. Coming into the season, Kincaid was seen as a player who would take the next step but that just hasn’t happened. With this offense, you have no idea which pass catcher will show up and produce. The Bills will also be playing against the New York Jets this week and that part of the Jets has not been the issue this year. This is one of the easiest sits for Week 6.

Recap

Heading into Week 6, there is some excitement with this position for the tight ends. But matchups and target share are the most valuable statistics to look at with tight ends because the position is so touchdown-reliant. Don’t just look at names and make decisions based off that. These decisions have to be the most strategical of all of the positions which makes it the most stressful.
