Tight Ends Start’Em, Sit’Em: Week 5

tight end

Tight ends are back and ready to finally help fantasy owners daily. After a miserable first three weeks for the position, they all came to play in Week 4 and surely they either won fantasy owners their matchup or cost them one. In a week that is already full of multiple teams on a bye week, that means most fantasy owners will need a new tight end and your decisions are very important in a week like this.

Tight Ends Start’Em: Week 5

Bengals TE Mike Gesicki

The former Penn State tight end could be one of the most underrated starts of Week 5. The Bengals are facing off this week against division rival Baltimore Ravens and this is one of the best tight end matchups.

The Ravens are 31st in the league against opposing tight ends and the Bengals could be ready for a jolt. Cincinnati finally got their first win of the season last week and usually, when that happens, they take off. The offense has been very good over the last couple of weeks and with a team that is bad at defending tight ends, it would be a great idea to take a chance and start Gesicki.

Packers TE Tucker Kraft

Jordan Love is back and that means Tucker Kraft should be producing moving forward. The first month of the season has been one to forget for Kraft but with the return of Love, Kraft provided 6 catches on 9 targets for 53 yards and a touchdown.

It most certainly helped that the Packers were down big which led to them throwing the ball a lot but the high volume of targets is noticeable. As Love gets more and more healthy, expect Kraft to be a focal point in the Packers offense. They play the Rams in Week 5 and they have an extremely young secondary. That could open up the middle of the field and allow Kraft to produce at a high level.

Tight Ends Sit’Em: Week 5

Raiders TE Brock Bowers

With the amount of Raiders injuries which includes star receiver Davante Adams, it should be a slam dunk to start the other extremely talented weapon for the Raiders offense. But, the Raiders will be facing off against the Broncos in a game that should not be considered a barn burner.

These two teams have solid defenses and offenses that don’t score many points. What that means is this should be a low-scoring and field position game more than some flash. Adams is week to week and has a shot at returning this week so if he does, that means even fewer targets for Bowers. But even if Adams doesn’t play, this is a brutal matchup for the rookie tight end.

Jaguars TE Evan Engram

After a rough Week 1 performance, Engram missed the Jaguars’ next three games and the Jaguars team has had a miserable start to the season. Fantasy-wise, it’s been tough to gauge which offensive weapons can provide stability for the offense. Backup tight end Brenton Strange has been solid as a starter and should still be a viable fantasy contributor even behind Engram.

Trevor Lawrence has had a rough start to the season and their opponent this week is the Colts, who are coming off an impressive defensive performance against the Steelers last week. With the matchup and the unknown of the offense, this feels like a sit. Many people have Engram as a top-10 TE in their rankings for the week but it would be a good idea to look for other options.
