The 2020 undrafted Rico Dowdle is by no means your typical fantasy star. Dowdle never garnered any huge attention like most top fantasy running backs, but he is making his presence known in the NFL as well as more importantly in the dynasty fantasy world. The 26-year-old has had to work and fight his way to get his opportunity and boy oh boy is it ever paying off in the biggest way. Dynasty owners should be looking to make a move for this soon-to-be fantasy star. But what exactly makes him so valuable? We will dive into that question and more as we peel back the layers of Rico Dowdles’ value as a dynasty football player.
Rico Dowdle’s Future in Fantasy
Thus far Rico Dowdle has rushed for for 130+ yards and has 70+ receiving yards, with one touchdown to boot. While this by no means is a popping stat line for a running back, it is nothing to wipe your nose at. What is more impressive is the underlying metrics of this and what it means for this Running backs future, as far as it pertains to dynasty football.
Rico is steadily increasing the amount of touches and attempts he is getting each game, as well as improving in total yards. The more he is playing the better he is getting, and the better he is getting the more the Cowboys are using him. While you may be scratching your head as to why I am pushing a Running back in a very crowded Cowboys backfield, just let me cook and it will all make sense.
We are not only taking Rico Dowdle as he is in the current day, but rather looking into the crystal ball and seeing how he can and will be. The Cowboys are known for elite running backs, with the likes of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. The Cowboys haven’t yet found that top guy to lead the backfield. But they sure are sniffing around to find it, and it is a firm belief they may have found it in Rico Dowdle. This 26-year-old has taken a long and difficult path to his current position in the NFL but his future as a fantasy elite is looking very bright by this writer’s monocle eyeglass.
Rico Dowdle Outlook Past 2024
Looking beyond this season, there is a great perspective of Rico Dowdle taking solo over the Cowboys backfield. With Ezekiel Elliott winding down his career and going out to pasture, there is really only Deuce Vaughn, Dalvin Cook, and Malik Davis to beat out. With experience, pass-catching ability, and relationship building with Dak Prescott, there is little doubt in many analysts’ eyes that Dowdle will assume the bell-cow role of the Cowboys’ running back if not by the end of this season, then the 2025 season and beyond.
A word of caution is his age. At 26 years old, Rico Dowdle is no young calf or spring chicken, but ol’ McDonald can still use him on his farm. Just understand to not pay a value, or price for a five-year potential back. In the span of the running back world Dowdle has about two to maybe three elite years on an improving Cowboys team.
Rico Dowdle Value
In the humble opinion of this writer, great value is seen in Rico Dowdle. Go after him in your dynasty leagues. He has PPR capability that will grow and improve he takes a bigger and bigger role in the Cowboys offense. His ability to make misses on tackles, and explode into the secondary is improving each and every opportunity he gets. He has the potential to be a three-down back and stay on the field for pass plays. There is no reason why you should not go after this undervalued running back. Get him while he is a low value and sit back and relax as he fits in nicely each week as a top point scorer.
