Jalen Brunson 2024-2025 Fantasy Outlook

Jalen Brunson comes into the 2024-2025 NBA season as the clear leader of the New York Knicks. Brunson and the Knicks are looking to make another playoff run and unseat the Celtics in the Eastern Conference. Brunson is the unquestioned leader of the Knicks and can argue they go as he does.

Brunson led the Knicks to a 50-32 record and the five seed in the Eastern Conference. Brunson was fourth in the NB A in scoring last season with 28.7 points per game. Even though he plays the point for the Knicks, he is a volume shooter and the offense flows through him. He has an uncanny ability to not only score from the perimeter, but he gets in the paint with ease. He can break down the defense for his shot or create for his teammates. Last season he averaged a career-high 6.7 assists per game.

Jalen Brunson’s 2023-2024 season was arguably an MVP-caliber-type season and played in 77 of a possible 82 games. Brunson averaged 28.7 points, 6.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. In the playoffs, he took it to another level averaging 32.7 points and 7.5 assists. Brunson finished the 2023-2024 season as number 25 overall and PG6 and shot an outstanding 40.1 percent from behind the arc. The most eye-popping stat was Brunson’s career-high 32.6 usage rate and in two seasons as a Knickerbocker, he has a 29.8 usage rate.

Jalen Brunson 2024-2025 Projections

Pre-season fantasy rankings have Jalen Brunson as the overall ECR 23 and PG12. Brunson is projected to play in 77 games, and averaged 28.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. Brunson usage rate continues to trend up as well as he has seen an uptick in the past four seasons. Brunson is a ball-dominant point guard who is still able to get his teammates involved. His prospects for this season took a turn upward as well with the addition of Mikal Bridges.

You may see a decrease in his point-per-game average with the addition of Bridges and the expected return of volume shooter Julius Randle. I do, however, believe that he will make up for that with a real chance to push his per-game assist average closer to 10. Brunson’s ability to penetrate and pitch,  finish at the basket and the pressure he places on a team defensively leaves teams in a quagmire.

Final Thoughts

Jalen Brunson is well worth his current second-round ADP. The key is that Brunson has the ball in his hand so much that he has a variety of ways to contribute to fantasy rosters. He is currently projected to average 41.6 fantasy points per game and his cap-friendly contract extension allows the Knicks to add more pieces if necessary. Brunson also gives you roster flexibility with point guard/shooting guard position eligibility. Brunson has gotten better statistically every since since 2020.
