This National League East four-game series is the biggest in the entire weekend of baseball. The Philadelphia Phillies hold a seven-game lead over the New York Mets and have a magic number of four to win the division. That means that the Phillies have to win at least two games in this series to clinch the division title on their arch-rivals field. The Mets are looking to hold off the Atlanta Braves and make it as the third wild-card team.
Phillies at Mets DFS Starts
Phillies RF Nick Castellanos($6,000 on DraftKings)
The Phillies right fielder has been the most consistent hitter for the Phils post All-Star break but luckily for DFS players today, Castellanos is coming off a rough game to wrap up the series against the Milwaukee Brewers. While he hit a homer on Tuesday, last night Castellanos was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. Based on the previous couple of months, Castellanos seems to bounce back from games like that. Castellanos also has the most plate appearances on the team against Luis Severino with 18 and he is hitting .333 against him so this is a great matchup and it is a bounce-back opportunity for Castellanos.
Mets IF Jose Iglesias($6,400 on DraftKings)
Iglesias has been one of the biggest surprises in the game of baseball. It looked like the career of Iglesias was long done but after becoming a New York Met, his career has found its second life. For DFS purposes, Iglesias is hitting .373 in his last 15 games and has been one of the hottest hitters for the Mets. He is also one of five Mets who have had at least 10 at-bats against Taijuan Walker in his career and Iglesias is hitting .333 in that matchup. All signs are pointing to these being the best-value DFS players for this specific game.
Phillies at Mets DFS Sits
Phillies 3B Alec Bohm($7,000 on DraftKings)
Bohm had been at the top of the National League with RBIs for the majority of the season until an injury kept him out for multiple weeks. While Bohm hit a home run last night, the rest of the game looked like a player who is still trying to get his timing back on track. Bohm is the lone everyday starter for the Phillies who does not have a single at-bat against Severino so based on coming back from the injury and the unknown of the matchup, it seems like a good idea to stay away from the first-time All-Star.
Mets OF Brandon Nimmo($7,600 on DraftKings)
The Mets outfielder is still put in the top of the lineup by manager Carlos Mendoza but the production lately has not matched the belief that Mendoza has for him. Nimmo is hitting .218 in his previous 30 games and because of Nimmo not being known for being a power hitter, the RBIs and homers haven’t been there as well. DraftKings continues to put Nimmo at a high enough price point that you just can’t start him. If Nimmo was at a lower price, it would make sense to take a chance on a proven player but because the price point is high, Nimmo doesn’t become a safe bet to turn things around.
