Steelers vs. Broncos DFS Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em| September 15, 2024

George Pickens Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy 2024 Outlook

The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Denver to take on the Broncos in Week 2. The AFC conference battle features the lowest implied game total in the NFL for the week at 36.5. Therefore, this game will most likely not be a fantasy bonanza, but we are here to provide you with some DFS options.

Justin Fields is set to make his second straight start for the Steelers. Fields guided Pittsburgh to an opening win last week in Atlanta. Denver comes in at 0-1 after losing to Seattle last week in Bo Nix’s first career start.

Here are a few of the players we are heavily leaning on in this game. These players are in a good spot to have a solid performance and a favorable matchup.

Justin Fields ($5400 DraftKings and $7000 Fanduel)

It is trending toward Fields being under center in Week 2 for the Steelers. Fields has QB1 upside every week when he plays. Last week, he showed well in Atlanta with a 91.9 rating, 57 rushing yards, and zero turnovers. Fields give us the safest floor in this matchup and have a decent matchup versus the Seattle defense. The Seahawks enter the bottom half in passer rating allowed and yards per attempt.

Jaleel McLaughlin ($4500 DraftKings and $5200Fanduel)

McLaughlin’s usage last week makes him a nice cost-saving option in DFS this week. He garnered 15 touches in week one, led all Bronco running backs with 10 carries, and was targeted on 42% of routes run. McLaughlin profiles as the Darren Sproles in Sean Payton’s offense making him a weekly flex play in season-long and daily fantasy. In addition, rookie Audric Estime was placed on IR and early down back Javonte Williams only played 52% of week one snaps.

On the flip side of things, here are a few of the players we are sitting in this one.

Bo Nix ($5000 DraftKings and $6700 Fanduel)

Bo Nix had a difficult debut last week. He was 26-54 for 138 yards and two interceptions. He had a QB rating of 47.5 and his yards per attempt was 3.28. Nix was among the worst starting quarterbacks in the league in week one, bottom five in YPA, and fantasy points per dropback. Nix is a rookie, he will struggle, and you are not using him in fantasy this week.

Jaylen Warren ($5400 DraftKings and $5400 Fanduel)

Jalen Warren’s usage last week was concerning. He only played 31% of the snaps and had four touches for 20 yards. He was still coming off the hamstring injury and soft tissue muscle strains could linger. Najee Harris operated as the lead back and Warren did not look right. We can not recommend using Warren until we see more of an equal split in the Pittsburgh backfield.

Total Apex Lock of the Game

George Pickens ( $5800 DraftKings and $6600 Fanduel)

Yes, I know Pickens will be shadowed by Surtain, but we are betting on the talent and volume to carry us in this matchup. Pickens was targeted seven times last week, catching 6-85. He is a big play waiting to happen and he totaled 30% of Fields targets in week one.

Total Apex Fade of the Game

Courtland Sutton ($5400 DraftKings and $5400Fanduel)

Sutton will be matched against Steelers top corner Joey Porter Jr. Last week in Atlanta, Porter held the Falcons’ top wideout Drake London to 2 catches for 15 yards. Porter will most likely have shadow coverage on Sutton throughout the game. In addition, Nix could be under duress all game against a Steeler defense that harassed Kirk Cousins in Week 1. You might want to look elsewhere for wide receiver selections this week.

Conclusion

Pittsburgh Steelers versus Denver Broncos is only a game you are targeting for cost-saving DFS options. As we stated earlier, the implied total is 36.5 down from 40. However, do not dismiss the game, there is sneaky value in some of the players we suggested. Upside plays in Fields and Pickens and great value with McLaughlin.
