Lebron James 2024 Fantasy Outlook “King James Will Continue to Make History at Age 40”

Lebron James

Lebron James re-signed with the Lakers in the offseason after mulling his decision to retire from basketball. He will now play with his son Bronny James on the Lakers and keep that duo with Anthony Davis going for another year. Lakers first-year head coach JJ Redick will have James in good positions this season. Lebron had a strong 2023 season for his age of 39. Let’s look at his overall production in 2023-24 and the Olympics performance.

Lebron averaged 25.7 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in the 2023/24 NBA season. He was impressive for most of the season for the purple and gold, especially for being age 39. James is proving that he is the true epitome of longevity. He had his minutes down to 35 per game last season, and he had nights off due to load management. But playing 71 games at age 39 was a great sign that he could continue providing good fantasy value.

Another sign that Lebron is still a viable fantasy player at the right price was the 2024 Olympics. He won the Olympic MVP award as he was the main threat to the US throughout the tournament, even though Stephen Curry performed better in the Olympic semifinal and Gold Medal games. James averaged 14.2 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, and 8.5 assists per game, which was second among all players in the tournament. Lebron is looking to use the Olympics to parlay into his 22nd season and play well for Los Angeles.

Lebron James 2024/25 Projections

ESPN Fantasy currently has James as the 24th-ranked player overall and fourth-ranked small forward in their projections. At the time of writing, the stat line projections aren’t yet available for fantasy basketball. Those rankings seem right for the ageless wonder James. He is a good value in the second or third round of drafts this season. He’s no longer that perennial first-round pick anymore, and he doesn’t need to be to help win you leagues in the 24/25 season.

Final Thoughts

Lebron James will surprise many people in the 24/25 season, especially after he turns 40 years old in December. His Olympic performance will have a lot of carryover in a new system introduced by Redick. James will be able to find people on the pass in the spacing and cutting system Redick will implement in Los Angeles in his first year. He will finish as a Top-Ten forward in the 2024/25 season, potentially in the Top 15 of all players in fantasy this season.
