Jaguars vs Dolphins DFS Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em September 8, 2024

The Jacksonville Jaguars head south to take on the Miami Dolphins to start their season. Both of these teams are looking to bounce back from underperforming seasons compared to their expectations. The Jaguars lost their last six games last season which cost them a spot in the playoffs. The Dolphins lost their last three games including getting eliminated from the playoffs in the wild-card round.

De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins ( DraftKings $12.9K, FanDuel $11.5K)

The second-year running back out of Texas A&M looks to add to his surprising rookie campaign after averaging 7.8 yards per rush for 800 yards. The Dolphins use a running back-by-committee approach which limits Achane’s upside, but with his explosiveness, he can still rack up the fantasy points with minimal carries.

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars ( DraftKings $14.7K, FanDuel $13.5K)

Lawrence is in a make-or-break season as far as proving he is a star quarterback in the NFL.  This is the first time in his career that he has full continuity with the coaching staff and his primary weapons on the offense. This looks to be a high-scoring game so both quarterbacks are going to have to throw the ball a lot to keep up with the other teams’ offense which will give T-Law plenty of opportunities to run up the fantasy points.

Evan Engram, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars ( DraftKings $11.1K, FanDuel $10K)

Engram proved himself to be one of Lawrence’s most reliable targets down the stretch last year. The Jaguars added multiple new pieces in the offense this off-season and until Trevor gets more familiar with them and they prove they can be trusted, look for Lawrence to rely on the big tight end more often in the beginning of the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Miami Dolphins DFS Sit ‘Ems

Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins ( DraftKings $12K, FanDuel $12K)

The decision to sit Waddle simply comes from how many offensive weapons the dolphins have at their disposal. He is a good WR2 in season-long fantasy but for DFS you want value and volume. Waddle’s price tag isn’t worth what you’re getting in this erratic Dolphins offense especially with Tyreek Hill being the focus of the offense.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins ( DraftKings $16.2K, FanDuel $15K)

Tua has all the weapons he could ask for on his offense and gets you extra points by using his legs but Jacksonville has one of the best defensive lines in the league headlined by Josh Allen and former first overall pick Travon Walker.

The Dolphins have a questionable offensive line so the Jags figure to try and put pressure on the mobile quarterback forcing him to scramble or throw dump-off passes to the athletic backs of the Dolphins.

Gabe Davis, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars ( DraftKings $8.1K, FanDuel $9.5K)

Gabe Davis came to Jacksonville this offseason from Buffalo. He figures to play a large role in the offense for the Jags this season but I would expect the targets to be minimal until quarterback Trevor Lawrence can build some trust and report with his new receiver.

Total Apex Lock of The Game

Travis Etienne, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars ( DraftKings $13.5K, FanDuel $14K)

Etienne had a breakout season last year and looks to continue it this season. The Jags have a bell-cow back in Etienne that will get most of the workload. The Jags will want to run the ball and try to run the clock to keep the Dolphins’ explosive playmakers on the bench which will give Etienne plenty of opportunity to rack up fantasy points.

Total Apex Fade of The Game

Raheem Mostert, RB, Miami Dolphins ( DraftKings $9.9K, FanDuel $10.5K)

The journeyman running back had a breakout season last year rushing over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. While he could very well follow it up with another one this season, the running back finds himself in a committee in Miami’s backfield and he is on the wrong side of 30.

If you want a Dolphins running back in your DFS lineup you want explosiveness as it is unclear who will get the majority of the carries. Mostert only averaged 4.8 yards per carry last season almost half of what his backfield mate De’Von Achane averaged.
