Braves vs Twins Start/Sit 8-26-24

The Twins welcome the Braves to Minnesota for a three-game series. Both the Braves and the Twins are looking to bounce back from losses on Sunday. However, the Braves are coming off a series win at home while the Twins were only able to take one game from St. Louis. Each team has something to play for in this series as they are both in the hunt for a wild card spot in their respective leagues.

Whit Merrifield, 2B, Atlanta Braves

Merrifield didn’t get a hit in yesterday’s game, but he did walk, extending his on-base streak to 19 games. Merrifield has gone 4-10 in his career against Twins pitcher Bailey Ober which looks good for Whit to keep his on-base streak going.

Gio Urshela, 3B, Atlanta Braves

Urshela went hitless yesterday in the series finale against the Nationals but is still batting .303 in the past week. Look for him to continue his hot streak for the Braves in the series opener as he is 3-5 in his career against Bailey Ober.

Ryan Jeffers, C, Minnesota Twins

Jeffers is one of the few Twins hitters on a hot streak as he has hit .545 in the past week with two home runs and five runs batted in. The Twins are going to need Jeffers to continue his hot streak if they want to have any chance of winning the series against the Braves.

Braves vs Twins Fantasy Sits

Jarred Kelenic, OF, Atlanta Braves

Michael Harris II took a fastball off his wrist in Sunday’s loss to the nationals, resulting in him exiting the game early. Test results say there are no broken bones in his hand, but he is day to day. Look for Kelenic and Duval to split time in centerfield until Harris can return to play. Kelenic hits better against right-handed pitchers so I would expect him to start tomorrow against Ober. Neither Kelenic nor Duval should be started in your lineup as a replacement for Harris.

Willi Castro, OF, Minnesota Twins

Castro went 1-3 with a home run in yesterday’s loss against the Cardinals, a lone bright spot in a dismal week for the Twins outfielder. Castro is facing the Braves ace pitcher Max Fried. He is on the mound for the series opener which doesn’t look good for Castro as he is only hitting .252 against lefties this season.

Braves vs Twins Pitching Matchup

Max Fried LHP (7-7, 3,75 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 119 Ks, 128.2 IP) vs Bailey Ober RHP (12-5, 3.54 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 145 Ks, 140 IP)

Braves ace pitcher Max Fried has had a rough go of it, only going 1- 5 in the last two months. These are not the struggles you want to have at the end of a season when you’re on an expiring contract, so Fried will be doing everything possible to turn these next few starts around. Even though he’s been struggling lately, you still want to start Fried in any leagues you have him in, as he could throw a complete game shutout at any time.

Bailey Ober is having a phenomenal season with 12 wins already. Ober is on fire going 6-2 in the past two months with all eight starts being quality starts for Ober. He should continue this success with a struggling Braves lineup coming to town. The only downside for Ober is the new additions to this Braves lineup. They have signed some guys from the American League who have some experience against Ober.  Still, if you have Ober, you’re starting him without question unless he completely falls apart down the stretch.
