Kendre Miller is expected to begin his 2nd season in New Orleans without a clear path to fantasy production. After an underwhelming rookie campaign, Miller did not show major signs that he would be able to cut into lead RB Alvin Kamara’s workload. Let’s take a deep dive into the several factors working both for and against Miller this season.
Kendre Miller 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Miller will likely begin the season as the 3rd RB on the Saints depth chart. Sitting behind two proven veterans in Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams, Miller will have an uphill climb to see meaningful game action. That is not to say a path to relevance is impossible.
Working against Miller’s climb up the depth chart is a hamstring injury that he suffered on the first day of training camp. Head coach Dennis Allen was quoted saying that it is “challenging” to make the team without any practice. It is unexpected for Miller to be cut from the team after the team spent a 3rd round pick on him in 2023, but the coach’s comments are discouraging for his fantasy 2024 fantasy outlook.
Working in Miller’s favor is his youth, draft capital, and overall talent. He will enter the 2024 season having turned 22 years old just 3 months prior. This could potentially be a significant advantage over his two 29-year-old teammates as the year progresses.
After spending a 3rd round pick on him, the Saints shouldn’t be giving up on Miller after one subpar rookie year. Miller showed great vision, burst, and cutting ability in his junior year at TCU, racking up 1,342 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, and averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Head coach Dennis Allen and company will still be hoping to rekindle Miller’s explosiveness that made him such a threat at the college level.
Kendre Miller Fantasy Value
Miller will require an injury to Kamara to see any playing time worth making him a viable fantasy start. However, his potential is undeniable, and it is possible that he can work his way into the RB2 spot on the Saints depth chart, making him a viable handcuff.
Final Thoughts
Kendre Miller should go un-rostered in all but the deepest fantasy formats this season. It could be worth it to Alvin Kamara owners to grab him in later rounds of the draft, but as long as the Saints have a fully healthy RB group, Miller will not see consistent enough playing time to start.
If Kamara is forced to miss any time due to any reason, then Kendre Miller will be worth spending significant FAAB on to acquire, as it is likely that the Saints will not depend on Jamaal Williams to lead their backfield alone.
