Marvin Mims Jr. 2024 Fantasy Outlook: Boom or Bust… again?

2023 didn’t end the way fantasy managers had hoped for Marvin Mims Jr. Going into his second season with The Denver Broncos; can he improve from his rookie season to his sophomore season in the league?

In 2023, Mims Jr. was drafted in the second round of the draft. He finished his rookie season with 22 catches on 33 targets for 377 yards and one touchdown. He added 9 carries for 30 rushing yards, while also adding 1 kickoff return touchdown.

Will he be able to improve in 2024?

2023 Projections/Finish

Marvin Mims Jr. fell short of expectations in 2023. Many expected Mims to have a good season behind Jerry Jeudy, and Courtland Sutton. Yet he only saw 33 targets all season, which is something fantasy managers didn’t expect.

Sleeper projections in 2023 had Mims Hr. finishing as the WR 66. By the end of the season, he found himself as the WR 89, only scoring 70.7 points in PPR formats.

At the Combine in 2023, Mims Jr. had sub 4.4 speed, and a 39.5 inch vertical. This means he should be able to get behind most defenders for deep balls. He boasted at 19.5 yards per catch at Oklahoma.

New Challenges

The 2024 season brings new challenges for Marvin Mims Jr. to contend with, like rookie quarterback Bo Nix. A quarterback with a lack of starts in Jarrett Stidham, or a quarterback that just hasn’t been very good since entering the league in Zach Wilson.

The Broncos also signed WR Josh Reynolds from Detriot this offseason to a 2-year, 9-million-dollar deal. They also added two receivers during the draft, one in the third round and one in the seventh.

Although Denver traded Jerry Jeudy to Cleveland this off-season, the added depth at the wide receiver position gave Mims Jr. more competition to fight through for targets. The speedy wide-out seemed to be a one-trick pony in this early stage of his career.

2024 Projections/ADP

Sleeper has Marvin Mims Jr projected as the WR 88, one spot ahead of his finish in 2023. With his current ADP being 227.8 there are a couple of guys below him that may be more of a viable streaming option come bye weeks. Guys like Tyler Boyd (ADP 235.2), and his new teammate Josh Reynolds (ADP 299.9) who finished the ‘23 season as the WR 55.

Final Thoughts

Marvin Mims Jr. has the potential to be a good player in the NFL. Yet, at this point for fantasy, there are better options available. If you want to stash Mims Jr, based on his big play potential that’s understandable but until he proves weekly he can contribute, fade Marvin Mims Jr.
