With there only being three maybe four elite tight ends for fantasy, where do you go if you miss out on drafting one of the top-tier guys? There are a few options available in the middle rounds of your draft that could have a top-10 finish each week at the tight end position. These three guys are going to be steals when the season wraps up. The last guy may come as a surprise.
Tight End Value Picks
Evan Engram
The number two overall tight end on Sleeper in 2023, Evan Engram is currently coming off the board as the tight end eight. His ADP of 67.7 has him coming off the board in the 6 round (12-team league). Engram had a great season in ‘23 finishing with 114 receptions, 963 yards, and 4 touchdowns.
Engram averaged 13.5 points per game last season. He was first in receptions and second in targets per game at the tight-end position in 2023. Engram’s situation hasn’t changed in 2024…the same quarterback, and the same offensive coordinator. Don’t be surprised if Engram once again finishes in the top five at the tight end position in 2024.
David Njoku
David Njoku cruised to a sixth-place tight end finish in 2023. He averaged 12.6 points per game in ‘23. With an ADP in the 80s (85.9) getting Njoku in the late seventh to early eighth round should be a no-brainer. He finished the 2023 season with 81 receptions, 882 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Njoku finished with the fifth-most catches, and the third-most targets for the tight end position in 2023. Njoku should have another stellar season in 2024. Securing him in the 7/8 round should give you confidence going into the season.
Mike Gesicki
The 27th tight end on the board for Sleeper Mike Gesicki is coming off the worst season he has had since his rookie year in 2018. His current ADP is 224.2 on Sleeper. In most 12-team, 1-tight end leagues he is probably going to be a waiver play with top-12 value.
After an abysmal year in New England where only caught 29 passes for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns; Gesicki looks to rebound in Cincinnati. With uncertainty surrounding Ja’Marr Chase and his “hold in” Joe Burrow is going to need a reliable second option. Gesicki can be that guy. In 2021 he had 73 receptions, 780 yards, and 2 touchdowns, he has been a reliable option in the past when utilized. Do not be afraid to Stash Gesicki with a late-round pick. This pick will be a low-risk, high-reward situation for your fantasy team.
Final Thoughts
With these three options, you have flexibility. If you don’t like taking a tight end in the fifth round maybe Engram isn’t your pick, see Njoku in the eighth. Lastly, if you just don’t like to draft tight end until the very last possible second check out Gesicki around the 220 mark.
