Entering his first season in the league, Keon Coleman has the best situation a rookie wide out could possibly ask for! At 6 feet 4 inches tall, with an almost 40 inch vertical he posses the physical attributes teams should be looking for in an outside receiver. Coleman could lead Buffalo in all things receiving in 2024… but will he?

We can sit here and debate all day long about who will lead the team in catches, or yards but one thing that shouldn’t be debated is Keon Coleman NEEDS to take advantage of having such an amazing situation, with such a high caliber quarterback at the helm.

If we go back to 2023 while attending Florida State University and look back at what Coleman was able to do with his touches during the 12 games he played in we see that he had 11 touchdowns. A lot of touchdowns for not a lot of volume in receptions. 50 receptions and 11 touchdowns.

With his ADP in most drafts I’ve seen he’s been going in the 9/10 round. Ask yourself this question, Could I see Coleman leading the Buffalo Bills in yards, receptions, and targets possibly…? The answer is yes, if he takes advantage of his situation you might be surprised to have found yourselves a league winner in late rounds of your drafts!

According to Pro football focus Coleman had 5 drops through out his collegiate career. With only 2 of the 5 coming in 2023 at Florida State. Needless to say if the ball is within his range, there is a good chance he is going to make the grab.

What is his floor?

Rookie wide receivers can be hit or miss. For example, Eagles fans I’m sorry to throw salt in a wound; but if we go back to just 2020 with the 21st overall pick they selected Jalen Reagor… and with the very next pick the Minnesota Vikings selected arguably the number 1 wideout in all of football in Justin Jefferson.

Now, am I saying he is going to be Justin Jefferson and have 1,700 yards and 10 touchdowns? No. But what’s his floor?

If we look at what’s in Buffalo, and what left Buffalo this offseason, I believe his floor to be around 50 catches, 650 yards, and 3-5 touchdowns. Which for a rookie is a pretty good season… unless you’re in the situation Keon Coleman finds himself in.

What is His Ceiling?

If we look back at some of the best rookie seasons in the past 5 years we have some incredible, incredible seasons. From Justin Jefferson, to Ja’Marr Chase, to Puka Nacua last year there have been some pretty great seasons statistically.

What did all three of those guys have in common? Elite quarterbacks, with the ability to toss the pigskin all over the field.

Do I believe he breaks the rookie receiving record like Nacua last year? Probably not… would it shock me if he did? No. With No. 17 behind center, and no true number one on the roster, I truly believe we could be looking at the steal of fantasy drafts in Keon Coleman!

So his ceiling… where do I believe his ceiling to be? I believe his ceiling to be around 75-85 catches, 1,200-1,300 yards, and 7-9 touchdowns.

Final Thoughts

Do not let this one slip away. I believe we could be looking at a candidate for the “steal of the drafts”. Keon Coleman has the talent, the size, and all the opportunity in the world. If he can capitalize on having an elite quarterback, and no clear top option at the WR 1 position we could be looking at your late round league winner.

Don’t let your league slip through your fingers by not snagging Coleman before his ADP of 98.9.
