Trevor Zegras has had a very polarizing career so far, he’s had some of the most viral moments in recent NHL History, he had an absolutely incredible pass behind the net, while then Ducks teammate Sonny Milano batted it out of midair to score, it absolute blew up the NHL World at the time and far from Zegras’s only highlight real goal/play.
Trevor Zegras returned to Anaheim’s lineup after missing 20 games with a lower-body injury, and on the same day Blackhawks Superstar Connor Bedard scored a “Michigan” goal, Zegras did it in his first game back from injury.
Trevor Zegras Career Stats
Trevor Zegras broke onto the scene in 2020-21 he only played 24 games, putting up 13 points and 3 goals, a respectable total for his first games in the NHL.
Next Season and his first full season in the NHL he broke out, putting up 61 points, 23 goals in 75 games, which was a solid season for Zegras, next season was more of the same, with the exact same goal total at 23, but 65 points in 81 games in 2022-23.
The 2023-24 Season was a rough one for Zegras, he suffered injuries and only played in 31 games all year, putting up 6 goals and 15 points.
Trevor Zegras Trade Rumors
Former New York Rangers defenseman Dave Maloney has campaigned for the New York Rangers to trade for Trevor Zegras, However, as of now, discussions regarding this move are still awaiting further updates and confirmation. Zegras is inked to a three-year, $17.25 million contract with the Ducks and will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Chris is the driver,” Maloney said. “Chris has embraced what the message intends to be, what we hope to accomplish long term. Another guy that’s been really good is [former Ranger and current unrestricted free agent] Kevin Shattenkirk. [Ducks forward] Trevor Zegras, he’s a local kid, obviously, he’s embraced it.”
“He and Chris are the focal points and, God, [if] Zegras ever ends up in a Rangers uniform, how great would that be for this movement? There seems to be rumblings and hope on the front of the Shoulder Check people that will happen — but that’s for further conversation.”
Reports have indicated that Zegras would welcome a move to a bigger market, but his future remains uncertain. The Fourth Period has linked him to eight teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, and New York Rangers.
Final Thoughts
Trevor Zegras has potential to be very good next season, especially if he gets traded to the Rangers, or Predators.
Last season was very tough for Zegras who missed many games and just didn’t find his groove at all, he has the track record small but, a track record to back up he can put up 60+ points in a season if he stays healthy.
If he stays with the Anaheim Ducks these are the projected lines via Daily Faceoff.
Line 1: (LW) Cutter Gauthier – (C) Leo Carlsson – (RW) Troy Terry.
Line 2: (LW) Ryan Strome – (C) Trevor Zegras – (RW) Frank Vatrano.
Line 3: (LW) Robby Fabbri – (C) Mason Mctavish – (RW) Alex Killorn.
Line 4: (LW) Ross Johnston – (C) Isac Lundestrom – (RW) Brett Leason.
The Ducks are not a great offensive team, Zegras is projected to have the best goalscorer last year Frank Vatrano on his line, who has 37 goals last season, which was tied for 19th in the entire NHL, but not sure if he can be trusted to do that again next year.
