Luke Musgrave 2024 Fantasy Outlook: What’s In Store For The 2nd Year Tight End?

Luke Musgrave 2024 Fantasy Outlook

Luke Musgrave was one of the many rookies who excelled for the Green Bay Packers last year. One of the youngest offenses in the league last year featured many rookie pass-catchers. Musgrave has a rare combination of size and speed which makes him a matchup nightmare. A scary injury in the middle of the season stunted his production, but he still had a solid rookie season. Can we expect a year-two jump for the tight end?

In 11 games last season, Luke Musgrave had 34 receptions for 352 yards and one touchdown. Many casual fans will remember his touchdown catch in the wild card game against the Dallas Cowboys when he was wide open down the field. According to FantasyPros, Musgrave was averaging 7.3 PPR fantasy points per game. While this may not seem like a lot, rookie tight ends are often volatile, and the early weeks of the Packers offense were shaky at best.

Still, the former Oregon State tight end showed much potential in 2023. Every game, he had flashes of greatness, and in a few games, he was tackled inside the five-yard line. It often takes a year or two for rookie tight ends to feel comfortable in the NFL. However, his 2024 fantasy outlook is murky at best, not because of him but because of the roster.

Luke Musgrave 2024 Fantasy Outlook

If you are a Green Bay Packers fan, you love this team. There are fun young players up and down the roster. This team is a nightmare for fantasy football. Musgrave has to contend with fellow second-year tight end Tucker Kraft, who also showed promise in his rookie season. Outside of the tight end position, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson all shined at various points of the season. On any given week, a different player could be the focal point, but trying to figure out who that will be on a week-to-week basis is nearly impossible.

FantasyPros has him as the 17th-ranked tight end for this year. His projected stats are modest, which makes sense, as he didn’t have over 65 receiving yards in a single game last season. While the projections have his stats increasing from last season, he still is projected to have under 500 receiving yards on the year. In a 12-team league, he is a tight end you are taking in hopes he becomes a dominant offensive force. Luke Musgrave is likely a TE2 with an upside.

Final Thoughts

Trying to figure out the Green Bay Packers offense will be rough for fantasy football players. Maybe after the first few weeks, we will have a better idea, but trying to draft these players will be difficult. Again, you are taking Luke Musgrave for his upside. If he makes a year-two leap and becomes a favorite target of Jordan Love in the red zone, he could become a low-end TE1 by the end of the season.

The worst-case scenario is Tucker Kraft makes a larger leap, and injuries continue to keep him off the field. Love continues to build chemistry with Reed, Wicks, and Doubs. Furthermore, if the Packers’ defense takes a leap under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, they could be a more run-heavy team in the fourth quarter. Watching Musgrave is fun, but his 2024 season is too difficult to predict.
