This 2025 NL NL Rookie of the Year Award Winner Odds, Analysis, & Prediction will look at the current futures betting numbers and handicap five young rising stars in the Junior Circuit that oddsmakers have on the futures board. Last season, Pirates phenom Paul Skenes won the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Award, with the Padres’ Jackson Merrill second in the voting. This year, Roki Sasaki is the NL ROY favorite, but this is a wide-open betting field.

Roki Sasaki, Dodgers (+185)

Los Angeles rookie RHP Roki Sasaki (0-1, 3.29 ERA, 12 K, 1.76 WHIP) may have to fight for starts in this Dodgers never-ending starting pitching rotation, but odds are skipper Dave Roberts gives the phenom his shot this spring and summer. Sasaki (6-2, 187) is a 23-year-old starter who was born in Tokyo, Japan.
In Japan’s Nippon Professional League (NPL) in 2022, Sasaski threw a perfect game for the Chiba Lotte Marines. In high school, Sasaki recorded a 101 mph pitch, eclipsing a national record of 99 mph held now by teammate Shohei Ohtani. Sasaki is off to a somewhat suspect start with the Dodgers (+230 to win 2025 World Series), and at these odds, it seems better to look at another guy. Sasaki will start for LA on Saturday at Texas (4:05 ET/1:05 PT) and is scheduled to get the pill again next Saturday, April 26 vs the Pirates (9:10 ET/6:10 PT).
Dylan Crews, Nationals (6/1)
The Nationals have three players listed in the Top 100 prospects list in OF Dylan Crews (#4), RHP Travis Sykora (#69), and RHP Jarlin Susana (#78), and Crews is the oddsmakers’ second-favorite at this point in time. But it might not stay that way with Crews (6-0, 203) only batting .140 with no HR and no RBI with a .324 OBP. A welcome addition to the Washington OF, the right-handed batting Crews will eventually start hitting, but with this kind of statistical start in April, it is impossible to recommend betting on him at this price.
Griffin Conine, Marlins (+950)
Twenty-seven-year-old A’s rookie LF Griffin Conine (.279, HR, 5 RBI, .779 OPS) is the son of former MLB player Jeff Conine and was selected by the Blue Jays in the 2018 MLB Draft in the second round but decided to play for Duke in the ACC in the college ranks. Conine (6-1, 210) bats left-handed and will get his plate appearances for Miami, but can he get the attention playing for a weaker club and have the kind of numbers needed to get enough votes? Probably not.
Caleb Durbin, Brewers (13/1)
The Brewers (50/1 to win the 2025 World Series) called up 3B Caleb Durbin for Friday’s game vs the A’s, and he had a great MLB debut, going 2-for-4 in Milwaukee’s 5-3 win in Interleague play.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Todd Rosiak wrote, “Pat Murphy says Caleb Durbin will be the Brewers’ regular third baseman for the foreseeable future.” So the 5-foot-7, 183-pound product of Lake Forest, Illinois, will certainly be getting the ABs, has a good start, and is on a team that may actually have a decent season. At these odds (13/1), Durbin seems like a much better speculative wager than Crews or Conine.
Thomas Saggese, Cardinals (25/1)
The Cardinals have a promising young infielder in Thomas Saggese (.423, HR, 5 RBI, .984 OPS), a right-handed hitter who can play SS and 3B. Saggese was called up last season and hit .204, getting 10 hits in 54 ABs with a HR and 4 RBI. With 11 hits already in 26 ABs, the 23-year-old from Carlsbad, California, already has a much better start this time in the big leagues.
But can he get enough playing time and generate enough offense to justify winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award? It may be a tough sell as Saggese isn’t even No. 1 on the Cardinals’ current depth chart at 3B or SS. Still, the price and arc look better than Crews and Conine.
Final Thoughts on NL ROTY Winner Pick
Pitchers won both the AL Rookie of the Year (Luis Gil) and NL Rookie of the Year (Paul Skenes) awards last season, and it’s hard to imagine another pitcher winning this time around. Sasaki should have a great season for the Dodgers, but the rocky start and the number of other starters in LA make it seem like he may struggle to get 10 wins.
With Milwaukee committing to Durbin at 3B, and his good MLB debut. Now seems like the perfect time to back the Brewers’ rookie at these double-digit odds. Our pick for the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year was Red Sox 2B Kristian Campbell.
Final Pick
Caleb Durbin +1300
